Sciatica and Endometriosis

So, I have had severe sciatica for almost 2 years now. I have severe adhesions and some endo.
In all my research and efforts, the ONLY time in 2 years I have not had severe sciatica is when I was pregnant for 3 months. By the third month it was %95 gone. No drugs, surgery, rest, physiotherapy, heat, acupuncture or anything can stop the pain. Literally it is so bad I rarely can sit, walk for long distances and went from exercising 40 min a day to not once in the last 2 years. Of course, now that I am not pregnant, it is back with a vengeance. The doctors said that since my sciatica went away with pregnancy, it is almost certainly related to the endo or adhesions (at first all doctors were mystified as to how sciatica can result from endometriosis). I just wish there was some way to confirm this diagnoses and treat it. I just found an article online that said: "Computerized tomography-guided biopsy followed by CD10 immunohistochemical staining is a minimally invasive procedure for accurate diagnosis of sciatic endometriosis." This was a case of a woman who was 33 (my age) and had severe sciatica. Anyone heard of this testing? I am desperate for an answer and my gyn is not able to treat the sciatica except with Lupron etc. (which I have refused in order to have kids). Just want some help. Honestly, this pain is unbearable since I stopped meds to get pregnant. Posted on 11/06/09, 04:11 pm |

I think I might lose my mind if this pain goes on for 10 years. Literally, I would rather they chopped my sciatic nerve in half than to feel this pain 24/7 like I have for 2 years.
Obviously there are doctors diagnosing and treating sciatic endometriosis (it is rare, like lung endo etc.)....WHY CAN'T THEY TREAT MINE!? If I got rid of my sciatica I would be functioning at 75% at least. With it, I am functioning at %40 at the most. I am very angry no doctors will help me. I have seen the best specialists and don't understand why NO ONE can do a surgery to remove the endo from my sciatic notch or nerve. ARGH.

hi utah,
i am aware that you have probably had loads of appointments with different specialists. but have you trued calling them first and asking if they have ever or are possibly willing to remove endo on the sciatic nerve?? sometimes this saves us the time and heartbreak of waiting for an appointment for so long.. to show up and be told there is nothing they can do for what you want done. i had to do this with my condition, ring first as noone knows about it or does not treat it or does not treat that particular vein (i have a difficult main vein involved). xx

This is interesting, i will be doing more research into this now. thank you. I too have horrible back pain that radiates down my left leg, and oddly radiates up my spine to the right side of my neck. I know I have adhesions and that the intesional ones have attached to the spine and it makes sense this would affect the sciatica. Dr.s still dont seem to realize the far reaching effects of endo. I find when i really strech/ or extend my spine i get light-headed/dizzy, do you ever experience anything like that?

oooopppps, forgot to add that I fight anti-inflamitories to be the most helpful. I take endomethacin. I used to take advil, but i took so much i got an ulcer-i always advise when possible people advoid painkillers. Damaging to the stomach and potentially addictive when you have chronic pain.
