Surgery or Not?

We have tried for over a year to conceive with no luck.
I have a small ovarian endometrioma but have monthly pains only on the opposite side (even the doctor thought that was strange). My HSG is normal. Hormones and follicles are normal. The doctor doesn't suggest surgery due to the small size of it but suggests IUIs with clomid. I've tried 3 plain IUIs and none worked. I've heard different things. I heard Lupron isn't good. Birth control pills? What should I do? I'm afraid of clomid and long term side effects. Posted on 11/03/09, 02:11 pm |

I have had pain, heavy periods, flatigue for as long as I can remember. April of this year i began to pass out because of it. I had 2 internal ultrasounds - polycystic ovaries, did not see anything else, was on progesterone only birth control. The doctor decided to do a lap and there were endometriosis all through. Even though my pain is on my right side, and endometriosis on both ovaries, she said most women feel pain on the right side. is this where your pain is?
After surgery, I felt great, better than I had for a long time, but then a month since my surgery, I had very heavy breakthrough bleeding, and that all too familiar pain came back. My doctor has suggested Lurpon, and I am currently researching this. It isnt all golden rainbows as the brochure describes. After much research and talking to the gals on this site, I'm still unsure of what to do, but am leaning more for going forward with this. My doctor will not talk to me about being able to concieve other than my chances of doing so naturally are slim to none. I have heard some great things about Clomid but have not taken it, though I have also learned a great deal about Lupron being good with concieving. Have you checked out the Lupron reviews that are on this site? they are very helpful.

One sided pain in any area is common with endo, and it never has to correspond to where the actual problem is. I have this as well and my endo/adhesions are sort of all over.
I am also trying to conceive. I have researched this alot and gotten good advice. Here is some stuff I have learned: - Lupron is perhaps not the best drug in helping you to conceive. Unless you have a diagnosis where this is indicated as the best course, really look into other options first. I have refused Lupron as hormonal drugs such as this and even the BCP can cause short term effects on fertility that are rarely written about. To be totally honest, I would NEVER take BCP as any solution to fertility, it seems to be the opposite idea to me. - If you get a laparoscopy and have endo diagnosed and removed, the success rate of fertility goes up as much as 50% in the 6 months following the procedure. - If they opt to do ANY lap surgery, ask them to do a TUBAL DYE TEST. This is where they test the fallopian tubes to ensure they are clear. I believe it can be done in the office without a lap as well, but it is more painful apparently. - If you want some natural solutions, acupuncture has been shown to help with fertility problems HUGELY. It takes some effort and time and expense though. I have done it for some time and even with severe endo/adhesions I got pregnant on my 2nd try (I lost the baby after). In some countries they make women do acupuncture before they will allow them to see fertility specialists even! I think there are a lot of options and if you can make sure you are getting a firm diagnosis and an explanation as to why each treatment will work, you can get some success. Wishing you baby dust and feel free to message me if you have any questions.

P.S. Look on the Trying To Conceive message board, as many of those women have tried Chlomid and know more about it.

thanks utah.. i had an HSG done.. all clear. i had a friend who had laparo surgery and was put on lupron.. her cyst came back. are you sure the fertility is up to 50% for right after surgery? i've read tons of online articles that all differ.. i think real research articles are the best way to go with real facts.. not sure what to do.. clomid or surgery, though the doc isn't suggesting surgery for now.

I have also heard fertility is at its best chances right after surgery.
It deffinatly is a way to consider. I wish the results lasted longer than a month, I would do it again in a heartbeat. And honestly, the surgery it self was not thad bad as far for healing. Oh, and P.S. I know my doc sucks! (i'm getting a 5th opinion on the 11th)
