Hi Everyone,

I have endometriosis and corpus luteum cyst on my right ovary that comes every other month.

The doc was so adamant that she would remove right ovary, if pill didn't work, as it was too much pain and medication with my other conditon (lupus)....

i was happy with that decision, and now for some reason she changed her mind literally from last night, i saw her today, and wants to put me on zoladex...and tablets to prevent side effects, and im worried as i already have heart palpitations and i am taking other medications.....

what have been your experiences with it? did it stop the pain?

Thank you

Tulax

" I have never tried it, but from my endo books I have learned this is a similar drug to Lupron.
That means it shuts off ovarian function. There are several side effects you should be warned about. I think osteoporosis is a concern, as are mood swings etc.
That said, I am sure it is the next step before removing an ovary.
If you have never had children, I would suggest reading up on this drug and speaking to your doctor about it first. I have been offered Lupron several times and have refused it, as I am trying to have children now and have a lot of concerns about the aftereffects of those hormonal drugs.

What exactly is a corpus luetum cyst, can I ask? There may be other treatments you can try before this drug. "

" I have no experience with zoladex so I'm sorry I cannot comment on that; however, I can say that both of my doctors (my regular gyno and my endometriosis surgeon) agree that the next alternative for me is to remove my left ovary and I'm all for it at this point! After going through problems with it for about 18 years now I'm so sick of all the darn drugs they have pushed on me and I'm sick of all the side effects. This is my own personal choice for my body. Remember, it is your body so do what you feel is right. **hugs** "

" my drs here in new zealand wanted to put me on this but the shot type not the pills. i did my research and out of the 25 side effects i already had 20. when i went to the drs i asked if i do take this will it make my side effects worse (she couldnt tell me), i asked her if things got to bad and i couldnt handle it was there another drug they could give me to counteract the zoladex , her reply was no you would have to ride it out for the 3 months. and i also didnt like how i would be running with no hormones what so ever. i chose not to have it ( here in NZ it costs $5,000 just for 1 shot bugger that).you have to be very careful when it comes to hormone treatments, research as much as you can and talk to your dr, and go with you gut instinct

good luck hun "

" hi Tulax,

I have had 3 lap surgeries to remove endometriosis over the past 4 years as well as tried provera tablets, depo provera shots, the birth control pill as well as zoladex. I have finished a 6 month treatment of zoladex in September and have had a great response. My dr said nothing new has grown back and the stuff that had grown back after my last surgery (it only took 4 months to come back!) had shrunk. So yay, I was feeling better and hadnt had any severe symptons since a couple months into the zoladex treatment. I had a few hot flushes but it was nothing too severe like a few people have said they experienced. My doctor did warn about loss of bone density but said it will return to normal in a few months after my last dose. I took the Zoladex by a monthly injection in the abdomen. It is different to Lupron because Zoladex is a Gnrh agonist and the Lupron is a Gnrh antagonist - different type of message in your body something about blocking the hormones to your brain to prevent ovulation and simulate menopause. Just check the cost of the shots because depending on where you live they can be quite expensive. I am in Australia and mine were heavily subsidised so it made it very affordable. I am now back on the depo shot in the hope that it will prevent my periods and keep the endo away - fingers crossed!!
So to sum up - I have had success with zoladex and very mild side affects associated with them. I am not sure if that will help with the cyst but it helped my endo.
Good luck! "
