For the last four days I've had this discharge that is seriously the color of dark mud. It's starting to worry me. I haven't had a period since August, so at first I just thought that it would be old blood, but it isn't. Something about this just isn't right. It's not very heavy and I could probably get by with only changing my tampon once every day or so, but it's the color and the consistency that bothers me. I'm not sure how to explain it, but it's scaring me a little. It's clumpy, but it looks more like clumps of hair you find on the floor after a haircut than the lining of your uterus. I'm just not sure what this is, and I'm not sure I should be worried.

Plus, I'm not sure if it's worth almost $200 to see my Gyno when my insurance doesn't cover it.

" hi,
why do you think you havent had a period for so long ?
to me it sounds like it is old blood and that your period is 'trying' to come along...

i have had that same brown clumpy type of blood and stringy too since i have been like this (i have pelvic varicosities)(no endo).
and besides that i also had skipped periods and up to three week late ones and very light... no red blood and it would be black and brown.

i would not worry too much.
when was your last pap smear ?

xx "

" I've always had irregular problems. The only time I've ever had my periods every month I was miserable on birth control. I just don't like how this looks. I'm used to the big clots and all of that, the brown or black blood, but I'm not even cramping with this.

I had a pap smear about a month ago. "

" sabrina had a good idea about calling the nurse. I agree with the others, it's probably nothing to worry about, but calling a nurse might at least put your mind at ease. Also, sometimes you can find walk-in clinics that can help and won't charge much or go to a Planned Parenthood.

Chances are it is just your period sort of trying to eek out. I often have what they call "breakthrough bleeding". I have a period... and then another one for a few days... then some clumps and discharge... and all the while I have cramps that come and go. It's so fun! (Ugh).

I know how you feel, though, it's not fun when you don't know what is going on! I hope you feel better soon!! "

" It sounds like a "chocolate" cyst or endometrioma. Usually, these are nothing to worry about, more of a hassle and nuisance than a medical danger. I drank a mix of aloe with molasses and it seemed to work, when I had a similar issue. That is a folk remedy from the Dominican Republic. Sometimes beet juice is added. Also, try putting castor oil (or similar) on your tummy and apply a heating pad. This may break up the cyst. "

" I am not sure this sounds like an endometrioma, I have them badly and they cause major bleeding and clots.... not tiny bits of blood. They also cause agonising cramps.... The drug free labour I had was easier to cope with than a lot of my endo pains! Can you speak with a pharmacist? Or med students at uni?? Often over here appointments are very cheap but there is always a qualified doctor with them to give their opinion too, so you get the full advice but much cheaper... "
