Ovarian Cyst

I had surgery on Aug. 10th of last year to remove a "complex cyst growing on my left ovary". I just went back for my yearly check-up and was told that they have found another "complex cyst". I have yet to meet with my doctor to ask specific questions so I thought I'd ask here first. I was just wondering how common cysts are. And will cyst just be something that will keep reoccuring for the rest of my life.
Any information anyone can give me on cyst will be greatly appreciated.

" I had surgery just a few weeks ago for endo and when I came out of anesthesia they told me that they also had to remove an "ovarian cyst" from my left ovary. When I went back for the test results he told me that it was just a "hemorraged corpus luteum" which is a fancy way to say that when my ovary released the egg it closed up again and was retaining fluid. The doctor said that it would have gone away on it's own over time, but he just decided to take it out while he was in there. So don't worry too much until you can talk to the doctor. They are not all as scary as they sound. I hope this helps. "

" I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but I had surgery to remove 3 ovarian cysts, in the space of 6 years. The only reason they would not remove anymore was because they explained that every time they operate on you, you get more adhesions inside because of the surgery, which in turn causes more pain, and it increases the danger to you when they operate, and I already had a lot of adhesions from the endo.
I had a hysterectomy a year ago this month, and they wanted to leave my ovaries but had no choice but to take my left one, and I still get cysts on my remaining right one now!
I had chocolate cysts, so I don't know how different they are to yours, mine were basically filled with blood, and just kept growing.
Every woman gets a cyst on their ovary just before they ovulate, as it holds the egg. Normally the cyst burst, and releases the egg down into the fallopian tube. However, for some reason in those with endo in particular, they don't seem to pop, and often grow, causing pain.
I had a male doctor try and tell me that ovarian cysts don't hurt, while I was in tremendous pain with one, so me being me I had to ask him "How do you know? Have you had one on your ovary have you?!" Lol!
There are all different types of cysts you can get, dermoid cysts for example can grow teeth, and hair in them - yeah yuk lol! Chocolate cysts(also known as endometrioma), like I had are common in endo, polycystic ovaries are caused through hormone imbalance, cystadenoma, and mucinous cystadenoma are like dermoid cysts, and no-one really knows why these occur, a serous cystadenoma is filled with watery fluid, a mucinous cystadenoma is filled with sticky, thick fluid, and is most often diagnosed in women between thirty and fifty years of age, theca lutein cysts are often found in both ovaries - the growths usually disappear by themselves, but may also rupture. Theca lutein cysts are not common, and they can be associated with two rare gynecological disorders: hydatidiform moles andchoriocarcinomas.

You really need to ask your doctor what type of cyst it was, and wether there is much chance of you getting another one.

All the best xx "

" I have had several "cysts" which it turns out were really endo tissue building up. It took forever for the doctors to figure out why the solid tissue cyst kept recurring and changing in size. Mine were also referred to as "complex cysts" and it took years to diagnose as endo tissue. By nature endo reccurs and gradually worsens over time. My pain is becoming unbearable and I am going to start treatment next month. Supposedly just taking continuous birth control pills so that you don't ovulate or slough endo tissue helps a lot. I hate the idea of messing with my hormones, and really hate the idea of surgery and from what I've heard, it doesn't offer permanent relief and sometimes makes it worse. Talk to your doctor about endometriosis after you do your research; my doctor didn't figure it out until I explained the timeline of my symptoms and suggested that might be what it was, then he referred me to someone else who actually knew about endo and confirmed the diagnosis. Ask him about your treatment options- which include birth control, other hormone therapies like Lupron Depot, laproscopy, or hysterectomy. "

" Hi stillnumb,

Yes, unfortunately, cysts are relatively common and even more so with endo patients...I think the type of cyst you had will determine how frequently you might get them. I had a ruptured "chocolate cyst" (i.e. endometrioma cyst) that required emergency surgery; 6 months later I went back under the knife to remove a second, goose egg sized cyst on my left ovary (I don't know how they missed that one when they had me cut open before). That was 7 years ago, and as far as I know, I don't have any others... I went on hormonal treatment for those 7 years, which had its pros and cons. I think it did help the cysts from re-occurring, tho'. "

" I had surgery 3x in a span of just one year for adhesions AND cysts. I had what they call a "chocolate cyst" that kept growing so they removed it finally. I have had many that rupture and that is extremely painful. I'm sorry to say they are something that you will have to learn to deal and cope with. It's not easy, but not scary either. "

" Unless it is bothering you don't let them do several surgeries on you that is one of my problems ...one doc. said I was a train wreck inside. "
