Endometriosis Diet/Paleo Diet

Hi Ladies,

I wanted to get some opinions and see if any of you really strictly follow the Endo diet. It's very similar to the Paleo diet, but even a little stricter. My insurance company keeps denying my lupron treatments, so I have been trying my hand at pain management through diet. I have been on it for about three weeks, but have been bleeding for two weeks, so I'm in a lot of pain. I have noticed that my daily migraines that are associated with my hormones and BC pills have magically disappeared. I've also had a much easier time with my IBS. I wanted to see if anyone does this diet strictly and has seen any big improvements in their pain? I've been in terrible pain for the past two weeks and have had to take my pain meds almost daily. The goal is to be able to live without the pain meds since they are so bad for my liver/kidneys.

I found this Ted talk on chronic illness and the Paleo diet. This women basically cured her MS through nutrition. It's really interesting and it makes me hope that maybe I can live a normal life if I control what I eat!

There was a woman who was on here months ago who did it and cured her endo symptoms too. She also went to limited chemicals in everything she used (detergent, make-up, etc.). I tried to ask her some additional questions about what she did with her chemical reductions...and she never responded back.

But I have heard of it helping some people. Dr. Cook wrote a great book about all of the various pains associated with endo and one of the sections is on food allergies. I think that if someone has a food allergy then this can definitely help.

I am on the endo diet and I can tell you it has done wonders for me so far! I am about to start month #2 on it. My pain has almost disappeared, my acne is almost gone (I used to have to wash my face twice a day with an ance cleanser and an astringent and even then it was only controllable), I don't struggle with fatigue like I used to, no headaches (I used to take 2-4 ibuprofen/day ), and I'm sure there is more I am forgetting but the point is that it has been amazing! As far as chemicals go you are supposed to stay away from parabens and estrogen like chemicals. I use castile soap for body wash, shampoo and hand washing. Also, don't heat anything up in plastic containers. Plastic when heated puts chemicals into your food. Only use glass. I haven't fully converted yet with the chemicals. When my current laundry detergent runs out I will use Castile soap for that too and will convert to using organic paraben free etc. makeup and toothpaste. I plan on staying on this diet/lifestyle change.

I don't follow it strictly, but I have found that dairy, soy, and refined sugar are the absolute worst triggers for my cramps so I try to avoid them as much as possible.

That is great news to hear! I've always been really enviornmentally concious, so I already do all the chemical-free hair and body products. I'm glad, this gives me hope that things will start to get better. Especially since I just saw my doc and since my Lupron coverage is denied and I can't afford surgery, I am basically running out of options unless I take daily opiods which I would really not prefer to do.

Have any of you tried medical marijuana? I spoke to my doctor about it a bit (I live in Washington, so it is legal here) but I'm not allowed to smoke since I am currently in the process of becoming a police officer. However, if that falls through, I am really interested to know if it has worked for anyone? I've never been a drug user, but we talked about the possibility of THC pills so I wouldn't have to smoke it. Thoughts?
