First LAP on Tuesday...any advice?

Hi everyone! I met with my surgeon today and I am now scheduled for my first laparoscopy to remove a possible endometrioma and to excise any endo. I am kind of scared of what to expect and what recovery would be like. I'm always scared about missing work, but I guess it is necessary. My boyfriend will be there during, and of course after for recovery (we live together). Any tips or words to calm the jitters?

Thanks so much ladies!

" My first was Thursday. For me the surgery part was a breeze. It was only about an hour and i asked the nausea medicine up front because in the past i've had trouble with the anesthesia. I felt pretty good the first day or two. mostly the pain was just the gas pains in my shoulders - moving around, a heating pad and light massage helped me. Saturday was when i felt my worst. i was exhausted mostly. i think i felt so good from the drugs and everything on Thursday and Friday that i didn't rest enough. Make sure to rest and drink plenty of water. I think it also helped that i stayed very hydrated the day before surgery too. Good luck! "

" Just keep saying 'I think I can, I think I can.'. It also helped me to have this saying "I want this crap out of me, come on lap, be here already.'. If you focus on the discomfort too much, you will go nuts, don't go down that road. it's tough, but damn it, you are too. :-)

There are great web sites with info/recommendations for preparing for a lap, like this one: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Ovaria...

My best advise is to 1. Plan on having family members help you up and down from the couch or bed, once the gas pain sets in (day 2 or 3). Also, take something to curb constipation. I like prunes when I am sick so I ate a bunch of them, it worked like a charm.

We are here for you...keep us posted. "

" A couple other things I wanted to add.

1.) bring a pillow with you for the car ride home. hugging it to your belly will help when going over bumpy roads.

2.) I had a very scratchy throat from being intubated during surgery. I found that the Halls breezers worked well - they are soothing without tasting like menthol. "
