I was told last year by my gyneocologist that I may have endometriosis. I have had at least 3-4 transvaginal ultrasounds done that have revealed cysts on my ovaries. I also was told I have scars on my ovaries from past cysts that have ruptured. This explained my EXTREMELY painful periods.
They have never done the actual surgery to diagnose me yet and I really am kinda scared of it. She did put me on birth control which has helped TREMENDOUSLY with the pain. My periods used to be so painful I would almost end up in the hospital. I can also now feel when there is a cyst though because there is pressure in that area and if I sneeze or cough or laugh or stretch in a wrong way I get a sharp pain in my lower abdomen. I just want to know should I seek more advice about the surgery and what could I do to help in the meantime? thank you for your time. Posted on 06/15/09, 05:06 pm |

hi
i have a cysts problem too. i get sharp pains in my pelvic area and my lower pelvic area swells. what type of cysts do you have. if its functional cysts they should go away on their own but if its another type of cyst you may have to watch and make sure it dosent grow. imo i think you should possiblely get surgery to really diasgnose endo. if you dont the pain will get worst, scar tissue will grow and connect organs together and infertility may happen. i had surgery for endo in dec 08. mine took 30 mins i was back on my feet in 2-3 days and felt completely better than ever. 6 months later my pain is back but everyone is different. happy that you found birth control to work for you. good luck and if you ever have anymore questiions about surgery, endo or just wanna talk or vent im here as well as other women -sabrina

Thank you both for your support. I am not sure what type of cysts I have. I believe they are functional because they do come and go but when they rupture it is torture! :(. I will ask more about them at my next appt. I am here to listen as well if any of yall need an ear. Thank you both again.

ovarian cysts suck! My doctor told me not to do strenuous physical exercise when I get them because that will increase the chance of rupturing.
They can't tell for sure from ultrasounds whether the cysts are endometriomas, but they can tell if they are complex or simple- and endometriomas are complex cysts. I had the same experience with ending up in the hospital every period, and b/c (Progestrin and mirena) have helped tremendously. Unfortuantely, I still develop cysts. I had the surgery a few months back, and it was good to have a definitive diagnosis, and also helped somewhat with the pain. Good luck and feel better!

hi Krystle! you should seek all the advice you need cause it your health and you r result are only as good as your doctor!!! I was dianose at 18 with very server endo which thru a abdomen surgery the doctors measured it to be 15x16cm and only where able to save my left ovary. I wasnt well informed of how aggresive it could be and I made the BIGGEST mistake of not asking question until it was to late. Cause two years later I now have 10cm mass on my left only ovary and has been told at 21 i may never have kids due to me not knowing enough info on endo and not seeking the best in treatment i would strongly advice you to join the endometriosis association they have helped soo much!!! And make sure your doctor truely knows of endo! I strongly recommon the endo diet you can look it up on the internet and it helld with the pain as well as accupunture which has helld me with the pain!!! JUST DONT BE SCARED TO ASK QUETIONS CAUSE ITS YOUR FUture!!!! dont make the same mistake!!!
