Advice:
hysterectomy?

Was diagnosed with endo back in June after months of cyclic pain, fatigue, light unpredictable periods and PMS off the charts. I have had the LUPRON injections which took care of everything-almost. Still having the same old pain on my right side- can't tell you if it cyclic anymore because I am not having any periods. I am scheduled for a TAH on 12/29 and am PETRIFIED!
My questions are:
1. If my symptoms improved with the Lupron is it likely that I will have less hormonal problems after the hyst?

2. Is it at all probable that the pain I am still having is not from the endo? I am so afraid that my uterus and ovaries are going to be removed and that it won't help! I am 44, have already had children and tubal ligation and in June an ablation, so it is not that I want to hold on for reproductive organs- it is scary beyond belief to think of going through this and having it been a mistake.
Thanks for your input!

" i'm not sure if the hyst will help or not. the pain you feel does it feel like the endo pain you once had? I deal with horrible pain from my endo and they have me on the lupron shots and they are not helping with pain yet making me a nut case. Sorry I could not be more help. If you need to chat I'm here. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon one way or another "

" I know nothing about having a hysterectomy from personal experience, but I can tell you what surgeons, books etc have told me: 1) make sure to have ovaries removed, or endo symptoms will continue (due to estrogen),
2) hysterectomies do not stop always endo pain, especially if it is on areas like the bowels etc.,

Also, I have had right sided endo pain for 15 years. No surgery or drug has ever helped it and I would be surprised if a hysterectomy would. That said, my pain was partially from my bowel endo, so perhaps it is not the same as yours.

Have you heard of a pre-sacral neurectomy? I had one and it got rid of most pain (except some mild right sided pain)!!! I would suggest that before a total hyst.....or even ask them about it... Good luck either way. "

" Please take my advice on this I am living proof that a hysterectomy WILL NOT I repeat will NOT make you better! I promise you it won't help at all!!!!! I have endo. I was diagnosed @ 25. I"ve been on danocrine, lupron, & every BC you can imagine 7 lap's and nothing gave me relief. my dr' had suggest a hysterectomy so I finally gave in a said take everything out! The pain was unbearable, I gave up. I was hoping it would end my pain but it didn't. My TAH BSO was in 2001. 2002 almost 1 year later here comes the pain on my right side. I couldn't belive it. Both ovories,..... GONE,.... NO HRT! I wasn't risking any chance of endo returning,.... but it did. My Dr. was floored, he almost didn't lap. me b/c he said it was impossible. I proved him wrong. Here's what I've learned with endo,.... once its in your bowels your done. forget it. you basically have lost the battle. I hate to sound so negative but its the truth. There just are certain area's they can not laser, and if microscopic lesion/implant is left behind, it willl return.
I had a hysterectomy for nothing. I gave up my chance to be a mother because the pain of endo was to much for me to handle.
Now I am 36 and recently diagnosed with severe osteoporosis thanks to no estrogen. My Dr. clearly blames this on early menopause. I took calcium+d everyday after my TAH BSO. BUt it wasn't enough, I wasn't taking nearly enough. Dr.'s don't tell this after you have a hysterectomy.
PLease Please research as much as possible before you make this decision if you haven't already.
Any woman with endo should never ever have a hysterectomy as a cure b/c its not! It will lead to more serious conditions. Endo in itself is enough to deal with.
Sorry for ranting.
take care. "

" Hi- here is my update~
I DID end up having the hyst last week-am doing pretty well.
They found that my ovary had a growth which had twisted and attached itself to my intestine. My Dr. also said there were new adhesions. We shall see how much improvement I have. Thanks for y your feedback and keep me in your prayers! "
