What is Andomyosis??

last year I was diagnosed with andomyosis and I have no idea what it is (other than what little I can find on the internet). Has anyone been told about this and what it can do? I am way to young to have a hysto, I want kids but I don't want to be pressured into having them on the off chance it will help the pain.

" I find it weird that your doctor would diagnose you with this, since the only sure way to do so is to examine your uterine tissue under a microscope after a hysterectomy. It is very uncommon for you to have this at such a young age, it's more a disease that affects women after/during menopause.

Have you been diagnosed with endo? The symptoms for both are pretty much the same. However Adenomyosis does not affect fertility, only endo does. So don't stress about being pressured into having children, there are so many possibilities and options now.

It might be time to get a second opinion. I personally believe that no doctor should ever tell anyone in child bearing years that a hysterectomy is the only answer. I feel that a doctor that says that is not good enough to be treating me and only wants a quick solution.

Good Luck "

" Yeah, I agree - doctors have confirmed with me that hysterectomies don't always cure endo and that childbearing depends on the person, not just being diagnosed....you don't know if it affects childbearing until you try! They say if a doctor pressures you into children you should RUN to a new doctor, as it is a bad sign that they don't understand what they are talking about.
As for the other thing, I am unsure what it is, but if it requires a biopsy, make sure they did one to confirm it. Did you have a lap before and get diagnosed with endo? Endo mimics a lot of diseases and some doctors are too dumb to know that, so a second opinion can't hurt. Hope you get answers! "

" Yes, I was diagnosed when I was 18 with endo, after convincing my doctor to do a lap. He kept telling me I was to young to have anything like that, My mother and grandmother bot had hysterectomies in around 30 years old and my mother was diagnosed shortly before hers so I knew it was possible. I ended you having it pretty bad, they were concerned I wouldn't be able to concieve and my uterus and overies were in jeopardy from all the scar tissue. I changed doctors shortly after that surgery "

" From what I was led to understand by my RE, adenomyosis is a form of endo. Whereas endo typically is just lesions that attach to ovaries, uterus, etc., adeno is when the growth starts occurring inside the muscle wall....which makes it sound more severe although I've read differing descriptions online...one thing is certain from the lack of info online, etc....dr's really don't know much about it & are just guessing what will help. Beware. There are plenty of doctors out there who will talk you into an operation you do not need...

I was diagnosed with adeno as well....after a laparoscopy indicated Stage IV endo...however I have had LOADS of relief after following the advice of Dian Shepperson Mills' book & going on a wheat- free diet for the last 3 yrs. Extremely hard to accept as a pasta/bread lover, but the painfree periods as a result have been nothing short of wonderful...

Knowledge is power. One thing I have learned over this journey is that there is no medical expert on endo, adeno, etc. In some ways, having the disease makes you know more than any doctor could read up on. Make sure you get MANY opinions before you do a hysterectomy. Only you will have to live with the result. Good luck! "

" I felt I really needed to respond to you. This is just another word for painfull periods. I have been diagnosed with Endo and this has cused me to be unable to conceive naturally. It is an old wives tale that a hysto will dtop the pain, and the pain will go after you have children. It drives me nuts that not many doctors know enough about endo etc. All I can say is read up on as much as you can and keep searching for a good doctor. It has taken me so long to get my diagnosis sorted that it has cost me a marraige and now the chance of having children naturally.
Soory to rant but you need to get this sorted as soon as you can to save you heartache in the furure.

I am here to chat if you need any help! "

" It isnt weird that he diagnosed you with andomyosis. I was diagnosed with it as well. I had very bad bleeding everytime I had my period. I too discussed having a hysterectomy. I did so in january of 2007. It is not uncommon for your doctor to discuss a hysterectomy to you because being in the health care profession, that is their job. It is NOT common to have this disease after a hysterectomy because the disease is in the uterine wall, not on it but in it and after a hysterectomy you no longer have a uterous lol. There is no other way to cure endometriosis/andomyosis. Do I think you should get one? When you are ready. Only relieve with this is pain medication. I hope this helps. The nest thing to do is meet with your doctor. The first reply you had, i had to laugh because that person was so far off. "

" I just had my hysterectomy 2 months ago and I had adeno and endo. The only way to be diagnosed correctly is by hysterectomy and biopsy report. They can say you might have it if you have an enlarged uterus. It is just as painful as endo. I also had endo inside my ovary's which is very rare. It couldn't be seen and I was glad he took my ovary's since he knew how much pain I was in with them.
I had my children and didnt want any more. I always wondered why I lost so many children before and now I know why after this mess. I wish you the best of luck..xxxx....Staci "

" with the research that i have done on adeno is that this occurs when endo has been left untreated for to long and spreads into the lining/muscles instead of being on the outside (with endo).i suffered from endo for 13 years before i got diagnosed so there was plenty of time for the adeno to start.

a good site i found was www.endo-resolved.com

hope i have helped some what if you would like to chat i am here

take care "

" Everyone is different. I have been diagnosed with endo, ando and pcos. the ando is causing fevers each period cycle and sever loss of energy. I am 40 so no spring chicken, I also have two kids. I have been fighting this for 18 years. i am done. i go in on the 4th of sept for a complete hysto and can not wait. The only cure for Ando is a hysterectomy but if the symptons are not severe as mine take your time. Kids are great, and also, there is never a "right" moment to have kids. Mine were both surprises. Happy ones too. I was lucky to find a gyno dr who has specialized in pelvic pain for over 20 years. not many male dr's completely understand the frustration of whacky hormones.

All in all you have to do what you think is right. A second opnion does not hurt. Good luck. "
