Does anyone get a bruise on one finger at a time? I get them one at a time, on any finger, starting from the inside or side of a joint. Usually puffs up the whole finger. Starts dark and fades like a regular bruise over a few days.

Years ago a Dr. said Raynauds after checking for clotting problems and I proceeded from there, taking care of my hands, especially in the cold weather. More recently, another Dr. got to see it the day it happened and said it wasn't Raynauds because it is just one finger at a time. She sent me for all types of blood tests. I now know I don't have Lupus. Didn't think I had it anyway. Hematologist said I have good news and not so good news. The good news was I don't have Lupus, not so good is don't know what causes it. That seems to be the story of my life. Had the same reaction to not Rheumatoid arthritis.

" I have this happen often. I have two clotting disorders, but they are controled by warfarin. For me, it's most likely due to Ehlers Danlos Syndrome due to the fact that the vascular system is fragile. You could go to a geneticist for diagnosis. "

" This happens to me occasionally, sometimes very suddenly and dramatically. Also the toes, but not as often.

A bruise on the finger a few years ago was how I stumbled upon Ehlers Danlos in the first place - in frustration I googled "spontaneous bruises on fingers" and EDS was the first thing that came up! It was like getting hit by a thunderbolt seeing the list of common symptoms and realizing that I, and my brother and my mother, and probably my son, all had the symptoms.

I didn't do any research for a couple of years (maybe I was in denial), then recently I began to look into it more, trying to educate my son before he heads to college. Sometimes I am sad, mostly for him, at other times I think "well, us older family members have made it this far, it's not so bad..." "

" Thanks for your answers.

I've been checked repeatedly for clotting times and problems. I Don't seem to have any.

I was so pleased to see all the common stories when I googled the problem. I was puzzled by the common theme that this puzzles Dr.s. I didn't see the link to EDS but I always figured this happens because I have EDS and have other weaknesses in GI track, tendons, etc. I think I bring it up to Dr.s, at this point, to see if they link it.
