im 15 years old and i was diganosed with eczema in april of 2009 a week after my birthday.
i was told to use hydrocrotsine cream with a high steriod precent. It worked for the most part, but i was only alowed to use it for 1 week. It was pretty much gone, and then it came back as soon as i stopped using it. only it came back bigger.
for the next month it was growing. i went back to the doctor and she told me to use vanos. but vanos is not covered by our insurance. so she gave me a bunch of samples. it worked quite well.
its was pretty much gone.. so i stoped useing it.. also right then i started taking flaxseed oil softgels, and switch to hypoallergenic soaps, and detergents. this worked wonderfully. my eczema was nearly gone. i was so happy. but then last night things turned the other way...
since its summer vacation from school, my mom asked me to do house cleaning each week, and she would give me a few dollars. well this consist of laundry, doing the dishes, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and washing the floor. well i break things up for each day... and yesterday...i washed the floor...i believe that was the cause of my flare up last night and today.. the soap was not hypoallergenic...my arm is red with bumps on it and is extremely ithcy, and painful.
i can't believe this, i thought i had it controled...but then i forgot about the soap to wash the floor....grrr..im so mad at myself.

( i also use eucerin lotions daily )

" Don't beat yourself up too much about it - just tell yourself that you got better before and you will get better again. And always remember to wear gloves when you are doing any chores with cleaning products - they are just too harsh event for normal skin! "

" Absolutely, wear gloves. I can't get near dishwashing detergent, especially the lemon kind. Citric acid is a big one for me to avoid. I wear gloves to peel oranges or slice tomatoes. Oddly enough I can eat them, just can't touch em with my hands. My eczema is mainly on my hands. Just make sure to replace the gloves if they get a hole!

Method makes a great line of earth-friendly cleaning products that I like. I use the Lavender All Purpose Cleaner without using gloves. I just don't buy the Grapefruit variety of the same product just because I know my skin hates citrus. "
