No health coverage!

I was laid off last November and do not have health coverage, and am down to my last drop of Triamcinolone cream .01%, which I only have to use in case of flare ups, which knock on wood, I am cool at the moment. I have a friend who's a nurse and she may be able to get me a largish prescription, but I hate asking her.
Anyone else in this boat and have solutions? How can the uninsured take care of our unfortunate skin conditions!? Posted on 06/16/09, 01:06 pm |

Fourtunatly, Triamcinolone is very cheap, even without insurance. I was uninsured for quite a long while. There is also a prescription discount program I used and its free of cost. You can apply by going to www.togetherrxaccess.com It has deep discounts for generic prescriptions and it only takes a few minutes to apply. I also always asked for samples. Its nothing to be ashamed of and thats what doctors have them for! Best of luck to you I know how much it sucks. If you need any other advice on how to get medical treatment without insurance, I have more tips.

Thanks JessiG, I do need the tips on how to get the prescription. I knows it's cheap, but I don't have the coverage to see the doctor to get someone to write me one. If you have tips that would be wonderful!!! I just don't want to pay out the nose for a tube of cream that costs $10.

Well, unfourtunatly I dont thimk you will get into a dr too cheaply, Did you try just calling the doc you got a script from before? If you tell them you are uninsured and laid off and just having a flare up they may just write you the script. I would explain to them that it will cost more for you to see the doctor than it will to get the meds! The other option you can try is to find a Dr. office that has a Nurse practioner on staff, you can usually see them at a third of the price of what you would pay t0 see a doctor (and they are typically more attentive because they arent so busy). Have you looked to see if there are any free clinics in your area? The last thing you can do is just find a doctor that will set up a payment plan for you, though I see your point about paying a forturne for a 10$ tube of cream!

Thank you Jessi! I called Kaiser, who was my insurance at my last job and told the advice nurse the plain old truth. She said I didn't have any refills remaining, but she could try to send a message to my (former) doctor and try to get a refill. IT WORKED!!! Doc approved a refill, and I went in and paid $41 for a whole pound of cream. That should last me about 3 months.
So worth it, even though that's a week of groceries in my unemployed position.

Thank you!
I got an unpaid externship today, but it'll turn into something in a few months. I'm just about to graduate from beauty school and this is the best salon in my town. At least I have a foot in the door +tips.
