Hi I just was diagnosed with dyshidrotic eczema today. I had been using clobetasol cream from my dr and it was not helping. I have had a red, raised, cracking, severe itching rash on palms of hands that will not go away. Looks like it is going away and then starts all over with bumps, etc.
Today the derm dr gave me vanos cream. I read the side effects and not real impressed with this. Has anyone used this with good results and no side effects? It seems every time I go to dr I have something else. I have had fibromyalgia for 7 years, probable MS, Graves disease, Vit D deficiency, panic attacks, depression. I am so sick of constantly getting something else. Is this also and auto-ammunine disease? I really would appreciate any feedback or how to get rid of this or at least get rid of the horrible itching that wakes you up in the middle of the night. Sorry this is so long. Thanks for listening. This is all so new to me. I have never had dry skin in my life and now this. Linjane Posted on 03/27/09, 09:03 pm |

Hi linjane,
Sorry you have got any form of excema. I am in Australia so we have different creams/ointments. If you can get a natural ointment esp if it has fish in it I find that helps. The one I have been tually a nappy rash ointment & smelt fishy but worked. I got it from the chemist/pharmacy. Go & ask your chemist or health food shop as they may have excema ointment too. Hope that helps. Sue

Hi Linjane, welcome to DS. I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. I'm not familiar with your type of eczema so I can't really tell you anything that might help from my own experience, but I can relate to depression from constantly being sick. This web-site has really helped me a lot because I felt so alone not knowing anyone else with bad eczema and here is a place where people who are going through the same things I am come to support each other. If you ever need to talk or vent I'd be happy to listen.

Honestly your initial reaction to treatment sounds the same as mine. I was embarrassed to shake anyones hands and I woke up in my sleep itching my palms. The clobetasol eventually rubbed it out after two severe outbreaks. Now anytime I start to feel and itching I use it and it stamps it out before the bumps form. (this has worked atleast 4 times). I hope you have as good as luck as I did.

HI Thanks for the responses. I am still batteling this dreaded rash. I have tried the clobestol cream with no results. I am at my wits end with the itching and horrible rash on my palms. I am thinking of going to a teaching hospital with dermatologist. I have finally been using A & D ointment and that is drying it out and then I use a moistuizer. I have tried so many things. I did pick up from a health pharmancy a lotion that has aloe, alot of vitamins and seeweed. Afraid to try it though. Thanks again.

I also have dyshidrosis, you could try the yahoo group dedicated specifically to DE. It's been around for years. Search the archives & you may find something that works for you.

sounds like you've a nice load of conditions there! Sounds like you like a challenge =]
In our bid to treat my little one's eczema we've tried to go as natural a route as we can. In my reading it seems vitamin D plays a massive role in so many of the bodies functions. So i find it interesting that you have a myriad of nasties AND a confirmed Vitamin D deficiency. I don't profess to be a health guru and that is by no means my area of expertise, but trying to optimise your Vitamin D levels could help with some of your conditions if not so much for your eczema.

Don't be afraid to use the aloe cream, it could be right for you. Everyone is so different that one person's cure is another's disappointment. A lot of people find relief in natural creams rather than chemical ones. Just don't confuse your skin by using both. Maybe you could try giving the aloe a control trial just on one hand, using the chemical cream on the other.
i assume you know about not using soap on your hands, and wear cotton lined rubber gloves doing washing up or cleaning. Good luck with the it, my mum had ezcema like yours, it always looked so sore and painful.

Thanks everyone. I did try the A & D ointment and it cleared it up but I was left with what looks like dry caloused hands. I still put the cetaphil hydrating cream on my hands all the time but they never get soft. Any suggestions on that? And I am concerned about swimming in the pool this year, will this come back from the chlorene?
