Hi, I am 15 years old and have mild dyshidrotic eczema. I have literally cried myself to sleep countless times over this. I really like this boy, and he likes me back...however, I'm afraid to even consider going out with him because I don't want to hold his hand and whatnot....as if growing up isn't hard enough, this certainly isn't helping. I understand that I may sound selfish because there are people in the world with far worse problems. But I'm still so self-conscious. I feel like I'll never be pretty. I'm just asking for some support, advice, etc. Or, some hope that I'll live a normal life and I won't become a freak of nature.
thank you.

" well, I've had it on and off since i was in maybe 1st grade. its not really itching as much as it is just vesicles forming (i think that's what theyre called) im have a dermatologist appointment in a week to try and get this sorted out...i received some type of ointment about two years ago that really helped and the problem pretty much subsided....but currently ive been using elidel and it's not really doing much...is there a reason why you're not supposed to use it long term? "

" Not sure on the long term use of elidel, only used about half of a very expensive prescript for it, didn't work for me either. But, I thought it was made so that it could be used long term, hmmm, drug companies being honest , forced probably. But it probably damages the skin wall by making it even yet thinner.

Why did you , or did they not give you the same cream, was it cortizone? Hows your diet, lot of sugars, and burgers, pizza kinda thing, or strict balance? And most true eczema itches!! Is it on your hands the most? "

" Vesical ussually refers to the bladder, means a bag or sack?
:-) So not sure if that was right? Is it red, the skin? "

" yes, i believe it was cortizone based.
i've asked my dermatologist about the itching and she said that a lot of people with dyshidrotic eczema don't suffer the symptom of itching like most eczema patients. my diet is something i was going to inquire about..i mean it's not horrendous but it's not the best. i've been reading a lot about fasting for eczema and such...any thoughts on this? "

" Been sick lately, drink city water, alot of antibiotics for something? If diet is just so, so, these things can be devistating to the system.

Fasting at this point I wouldn't think a good idea. Maybe illiminate a food at a time to see if maybe it's allergy. Get indigestion much?
Try adding lemon juice a couple times a day to get your ph right. I suspect you have changed and experimented with the soaps, and detergents you are using? If you are using atibacterial soap, STOP!! Alot of people suggest dove, myself, nothing but ivory!!
Would like to hear what the dermatoligist says. "

" Hey I'm seventeen and have had the same issues you describe and far worse. It's very tough and painful, but in the end you turn out to be a stronger person.

Fasting has always been a miracle treatment for me and poor diet was the main reason my eczema got so bad in the first place. If it's just on your hands then you're lucky, fasting isn't as necessary but helpful. Boil water and add with salt to a bowl big enough for your hands to soak in once it's cooled enough. Salt water/sea water has been a wonderful treatment for all types of skin issues for me.

I don't recommend fasting for too long at your age because you'll start looking very gaunt, so probably one to three days at the most. "
