general help....

I was first diagnosed with eczema three months ago, and since then have fallen victim to constant flare ups. My doctor will prescribe me something and it will help a little then once I discontinued the use, I would flare up again often times worse than before. I am getting so frustrated, and honestly pretty depressed... I am 22 and live in Florida, so i is pretty impossible to hide my flare ups (due to warm weather) and I am constantly staying home while my friends go out. I could honestly deal with this harsh reality if it weren't for the insatiable itching, pain, and uncertainty. I honestly dont know what to expect in the future. Will i constantly show signs of eczema or will it go away and then pop up again randomly? I feel like my doctor just diagnosed and dismissed me, and I feel scared and ignorant. any help would be much appreciated...

" I'm in the same boat, I'm also 22 and have eczema which sucks pretty bad. I'm asking myself the same questions you are and to be honest my dermatologist said ill probably have it forever, he also said in some cases it goes away and I'm hoping I'm one of those cases but who knows.... The creams don't really work for me very well and ive recently started ultraviolet light therapy which luckily is paid for by the government of canada... but i don't think it's gona work... if it does i'll let you know but im pessimistic ive had eczema since first year university. Anyways don't worry so much about it... ive just learned to live with it and to be honest theirs so much other worse off people in the world itchy skin won't kill me... :) "

" I know how you feel. I often wonder if I will ever lead a normal adult life, especially when I am in a lot of pain. As my eczema has been really bad since I was 19 (5 years now), I don't think I have experienced adulthood properly yet. For many people, Eczema is a socially isolating condition. My advice is to try not to withdraw from your friends too much, true friends will support you. Unfortunately for us we live in a world focussed on physical appearance. I know it's a cliche but it's what is on the inside that counts :) "

" I really feel for you all. I had small patches of eczema when i was little but from age 15 i have had chronic eczema everywhere. I've been in hospital a total of 5 times in the last 4 years through it. I get so frustrated and often isolate myself. The itching really gets to me. I've tried lots of treatments including at the moment immunesuppresant drugs. Nothing seems to work. I am trying to accept it is a part of me and trying to not let it bother me so much. It's just somedays it is really depressing, but keep in good spirits and you're not alone x "

" I had really bad red, itchy skin on my neck and face for years. Sometimes it was pretty good during the summer, but winters made my ears get so dry that they bled. My mom just said I have Irish skin! Aquaphor and Steroids work to a certain degree, but it makes my skin feel like a lizard. One of my girls is beginning to get it already.

I finally went to a Chinese acupuncturist and she gave me something herbal called zen fusion that is really amazing. There are lots of pictures of people at www.doctors-defense.com. It is really a life changer and worked on me in like 3 days. I don't even use anything else anymore. Hope it helps. I still have bad winters, but can control it at least. "

" to answer your question of whether the eczema will be permanent, sporadic, or go away, I'm not a doctor but I'll share my experiences in the least.

eczema has been know to be hereditary. if your family has a history of it talk to them and see how their eczema acted with age. I was told if they grew out of it, most likely so would you. (although from personal experience I was also told that and I didn't grow out of it)

another factor is what causes you to flare up. a few common triggers are stress, seasonal changes, environment, allergies, and asthma. for example if you're allergic to something and constantly exposed to it, your ezcema's most likely not going to get better. this all usually ties into lifestyle habits.

I think another factor is medication and treatment. it's a general rule of thumb that the better you take care of your skin, the less eczema you are going to see. regarding medication, every medication reacts to each individual differently. once you find any that work for you whether it be over the counter, prescribed, or herbal, stick with it. same goes for any treatments you may be undergoing such as phototherapy, acupuncture I saw mentioned, heck, even yoga and meditation I have heard works. (trying that one out myself to reduce stress)

I hope any of this helps and I wish you good luck on getting it under control or better yet gone completely. "

" Don't worry there is help! I actually use a couple different things that really work well for me. I use Elidel, Synalar Cream and also have used Kenalog. My doctor referred me to www.24hrpharmacies.net to order these products.

Check it out and find one that works best for you! "
