This situation is more for over-exercisers. I have issues with binging and purging, but my main problem is over exercising. I work out regardless of the weather, any pain I'm in, plans, or anything. I feel I will lose control if I am unable to burn calories with exercise. Well this has worked well for me until now. I am a runner. Or more accuratly, I have finally built up to being able to run 2 miles without stopping. This is a big achievement for me. But the other day, I developed a piercing headache during the middle of my run. Of course, I didn't stop, I kept going. Luckily by the time I got home and stretched, the headache went away. After some research, I found this was an exertion headache and I should tell my physician as I typically don't have headaches. So my dilema is I am not willing to stop running regardless of what the doctor advises. I am sure this is not normal, but certainly some of you understand this abnormal drive to exercise.

" Well, it's not "normal", but it's normal for a lot of us. Compulsion to exercise - even while sick or injured - is one behavior of an ED. I've done it and I do understand. Is an exertion headache dangerous? I mean, based on your research, did it say what your doc would do if you told him? If it's really dangerous, you need to look after your health .... I know you know this. :)

" I would see the doctor because if it continues, you won't be able to run due to extreme debilitation. My experience is that once headaches start, they don't stop unless there is some sort of intervention. I would imagine you would like to run pain free and truly enjoy it. So see your doc. "

" I can totally relate... I am definately addicted to exercise. I would try to increase your water intake as sometimes dehydration could be a cause. But I would also talk to your doctor to be safe. "

" Thanks for all the responses. I probably over reacted. The reason I was afraid to go to the doctor is I suspected my blood pressure is running higher than normal, and I would be advised to back off extreme aerobic activity until it is under control. Today, I drank a lot of water and took some advil before I ran and didn't have any headache pain at all. I will still go have it checked. I can't talk to people I know in real life about this as no one really understands this side of me. Thanks for listening. "
