help with stopping bingeing when depressed

I am SO disgusted in myself. I have been bingeing insesintly over the last few days. I am so ashamed and feel disgusted at myself. I cant do this anymore:'( Today i spent 3 hours at the gym and all i did in between was binge. I have so much uni work to do but i didnt do any of it. My body is physically tired and sore from the exercise but I cant miss a day at the gym because of how bad i am eating. Its like im holding on with one hand..barely coping. I have a headache from all the sugar. Today all i have eaten is chocolate and chips except for a banana and a decaf skim cappacino and a sausage roll. For dinner i had thai green curry with rice so no nutrients today and i feel so sick and emotional. The bingeing is like an addiction- i cant seem to control it and i feel so depressed and lonely at the moment and it makes me feel a little better for a while. Yet it is so destructive and has sso many negative impacts aswell. i just want to stop:(

" Hi emma. I know how you feel, having ED have this hold over us. From everything i've tried to understand, it's our mindset, and it's our response when we need to find a coping mechanism when we become upset.
What i know won't work is spending an endless amount of time in the gym. Ultimately it won't change how we treat food, it's a little damage control to our bodies if even that. We have a serious bad habit, but bad habits can be broken, all we need is a better understanding of why we see food as something other than fuel, a clear plan and a strong will to continue learning about food and ourselves ,and continue recovery every day. " i am going through the same thing, minus the gym. I feel my depression leads to the binges, which leads to the depression and so on. I wish there was something to motivate me to get this in a stable state. "

" Thanks Lucid and Jon. JOn, by a clear plan are you referring to having a meal plan ie. eating regularly and 3 meals and 3 snacks a day? I have a meal plan and i know what i should eat but lately I havent been able to follow it. How do you work out why you see food as more than just fuel? Thanks for the support and advice. x "

Trying to remember how it started, and why then?
All food is, is fuel. Sure it's evolved with the times, now so much of it is unhealthy, thanks to the health being compromised for taste and made readily available, but we treat it as something else entirely, a way to spend time, to kill boredom, to reward ourselves, and manage emotions. Our brains have bean to shape to this, and now it's a hard habit to break to put it back the way it should be, looking at food as food to live, rather than live for food.
And yeah, something like that, i'd maybe suggest 5 or 6 smaller meals through the day and lots of water, but why have you been struggling to keep to it??? "

" Wow! I totally feel your pain! I struggle similarly and the sugar! I eat M&M's and smarties until my tongue has blisters and all that sugar! Oh man its crazy! I am so sorry you are going through that because I am there to and its very difficult. I wish I had some words of wisdom but the only thing I know for sure that would be a beginning is finding out why you use food the way you do and then try to make peace with whatever those issues are. Sounds great in print right? Not so easily accomplished as I can fully attest to as I still haven't accomplished anything where my food issues are concerned. I wish you luck and all the best that you find the answers that I, thus far, have not been able to find. "
