Feeling mortal and scared

Never felt like my ED's could bring me serious harm until now. I've always had the indestructible attitude, not to mention the endless 'normal' medical test results to confirm my attitude.
Just got the results of my gastroscopy and they are a little concerning. I have ulcerative esophagitis and a hiatal hernia. A bit of a wake up call. The thought of an impending hospital stay is quiet daunting. The stupid thing is I don't know if I'm ready to 'let go'. ED's have been a big part of my life for a long time. How pathetic. I'm going to need a labotomy to get through this one. Posted on 06/08/12, 10:00 pm |

Not to be rude, but is your avatar appropriate for a group such as this? It seems a little bit inappropriate in light of the fact that many here are in recovery.

As you've said, your test results are a bit of a wake up call. Your lucky in a way. You've found out early. For some, the damage is done on the quiet until it's too late.
You have a chance to turn things around before they get any worse. You say you don't know if your ready to 'let go' of your EDs but are you ready to give up your life for them? These are the consequences of your EDs and need to be taken seriously. No one is saying it will be easy but you need to get the right mental attitude to have any chance of recovery. You can't hold on to your EDs. They're not worth it. Are you seeing any therapist/doctor ED related? Maybe they can help you challenge your behaviours.

Sorry you feel this way. I have some medical issues too and it's a wake up call but I went back to sleep since I can't let mine go.
Hugs your way.... BEYONDPAR....is your avatar appropriate? Eating Disorders and your avatar is in a tight corset. Not to be rude....

Don't try to do it alone, at the very least. Find someone you trust or something to have them help you. Even if you don't want to, the best thing to do is to try to fight your way through this eating disorder. Nobody here wants anyone to die because of the hell we're all familiar with. Even if it's comfortable and familiar, its toxic.

Agree with Bliss and Craig.
Unfortunately, most people with ED's go through this at one point. We all start off feeling indestructable, and it fuels the ED more. Then the problems start... Hospital is always a daunting thought, but sometimes it can be the best place. I know it took one of my friends ending up in hospital to make her ready to fight the ED. It's not always a bad thing. I hope things go okay. Keep us updated. xx

BeyondParadise - Really? Librium posts because they're wanting support for a scary issue, and you jump on her/him for their avatar instead? I don't know about anyone else here, but I personally found your avatar to be MUCH more triggering and inappropriate for the Eating Disorders forum than Librium's.

Wow. Really? A toilet...now a noose!!...is more appropriate?
I'm leaving this forum as its clear that it's quite clique-y....I didn't realize that raising a valid concern would get me ganged up on!

Beyond---sorry you feel that way I don't believe we are ganging up on you....it just seemed that it was wrong that you would state that someone's avatar is inappropriate. I would ONLY agree with you if the noose was a triggering factor....butI don't think it is.
Perhaps a noose is their avatar because this person is feeling like dying..and this is how they can express themselves.

Well the OP is gone, so it really doesn't matter now, does it?
My avatar isn't inappropriate. A girl in a dress triggers you? It isn't my responsibility to monitor your triggers as my avatar doesn't violate any rules. Nor did I say that the ops avatar triggered me (don't put words in my mouth), just that it seemed a little inappropriate for a group like this where a lot of people binge/purge.

I also NEVER said that yours was "triggering". Hell I am wearing a dress right now. :) :) :)
I am just stating the same facts as you....
