" Zoe, I am not sure if I can say anything that will help. But I have been there. Just concentrate on your school work and exams and then when you get out you will meet other people you get along with. School is horrible for a lot of people, there is a lot of bullying and if you are different like us it is very stressful. Have you got contact details for your friend? If so keep in touch. Phone her, go online and chat, and plan visits.

The Yahoo question you linked to has been deleted.

Don't worry I never wear makeup and I am 27. It is horrible stuff and bad for your skin, a massive con and waste of money. I did not get a boyfriend til I was 22, I am still with him and we have our five year anniversary tomorrow :) So even if you have to wait you will find happiness. I did not want a bf in my teens as it all seemed so shallow, I hate going out drinking and clubbing and that was where girls seemed to pick up boys.

Please understand it is good to be different. When you leave school you will find this. It makes the world more interesting instead of filled with boring clones droning on about makeup and men. What are your interests? Work on these and develop them. Would you like to use your love of animals and one day be a vet or work with animals?

Am I right you are in the UK? If so look up the dyspraxia foundation, they have good stuff for young people.

Keep your chin up, it will get easier. Leaving school may seem a long way off now but it will come. The important thing is to get the best grades you can so you can move on and do what you want to when you leave school. "

" I have a son who is dyspraxic. He is now 14 yrs old and is in his first year at high school. Lots of the kids he was at intermediate with are also here too. most bully him but he has a very good mate to hang out with. luckily we live over the road from the school, so both boys come here for lunch each day. John like you finds it very hard making friends and tries to join in. I have got him into kickboxing, which has been great for his confidence and co-ordination. he also goes to archery and is doing well here too. is not into any of the normal boy stuff like rugby etc. perhaps there is some sort of event you could join where you are where you could meet others from outside your school etc "

" My son is now 15 and, was DX with Dyspraxia at age 11. He has always felt the odd one out and, its very hard for him to go to school. He has friends but, not the kind that i remember when i was a kid. They hardly come over or phone but, do say "Hi" in the halls of the school. He to has a worker and, its hard for him because, he says " Mom eveyone thinks i am stupid" its not the case he is a A & B student with moderated classses. He has come so far i am very proud of him. I will tell you what i told my son sweetstar. Always hold your head up high because, God made you the way you are right now right here and, being different is good why do we all want to be the same? we dont so be strong & dont listen to commments listen to your heart and, follow it. It will lead you to a bright and, happy life. You are wonderful!!!! "

" more of an up date from my last post...my son seems to be fitting in alot better. he still has just the one close friend who comes home with him for lunch each day. his teachers are all very pleased with his work and he was even given an award for his english work, so very proud mummy moment there. is beginning to stick up for himself around the bullies and in the class is participating more in discussions etc.
he has been home for the last couple days with a cold but is friday so should be back to school monday. "

" I no it is hard, I have been there and got the t-shirt! Friends are funny thing, I don't think I ever found somebody at school that understood me or didn't see me as different etc but I did find people that had the same passions and hobbies etc to me which made it a lot easier. It also became a tad easier in GCSE level as I was in classes with people who had chosen that subject because they loved it too so we had common ground. The same with college.

Its never easy making friends and we sometimes stick out like a sore thumb and people laugh a lot but something that I have found is to laugh with them because its really hard when things go wrong all day long to not want to curl up in a ball and cry. You can't change yourself-laugh along with them, make it into a joke, have a sense of humor with dyspraxia...make it your friend not your enemy. We know no different and to be honest I think a non dyspraxic world would be a very scary one! I don't think I would know what to do with it or where to start because to me dyspraxia makes sense, just try and make it make some sense to the people around you because a lot of the time it is ignorance that stops them from being your friend. Educate people, make them aware that you are one amazing individual you just see life in a different way.

Through school and college I had a full time 1-1, people just became used to this and accepted it. It was hard to start off with in college but I just accepted that with out it I was never going to be able to walk out with the grades that I achieved so therefore stuff everyone else's opinion. Through out the years I have had many different comments about having support, some that have really hurt inside and some that I just brushed off but its a means to an end because at the end of the day I want to come out with a decent grade/qualification and that is all that matters! If they come out with really bad grades you can laugh in there face and turn round and tell them that they should have spent more time concentrating on there own work then whats going on with you!!!

It is possible, I have just started uni and I am training to be a paramedic, something that many people have turned round and said how on earth can you do that when you are as dyspraxic as you are...well its simple...dyspraxia won't and never will get in the way of what I want to do because I will not let it!! We didn't chose to have it we just got dealt a dodgy card and we have to get on with it otherwise we wouldn't get anywhere!!!

I hope that things start to improve at school, keep your chin up and persevere! It won't be easy but gee wizz it will be worth it in the end when you get to where you want to be!!! "
