my son is 13 and dyspraxic and finds it very hard finding friends his own age. His mental age is 8. I was wondering if there were any other boys about this age who would like to perhaps be an epal to my son. We live in New Zealand

" hi, i live in Malaysia.I have a daughter who is 12 yeras old and is dyspraxia. She is a slow learner plus has fine and gross motor coordination problem, such as tying shoe laces, cycle, tie a knot........ her writing is not up to her age . sometimes looking at her i don't know what to do, where to start , what to teach her.At times i wish she is just as normal as other kids.Doing well in studies, playing games, running around........so frustrated with her not being able to cope with her studies, it adds to my probles with my husband. i just can't take it anymore. There is no support group where i live and it is really killing me to see her being left out in many ways. "

" so know what you mean there buttercup64. My son has this year changed to a higher school. what we call college over here. This is age 13/14 to about 18yrs. He seems to be really enjoying it so far and I have not had anyone tell me he is not coping. My husband just can't get it through his head that his son is not like him. He does not need to be this big brave macho thug. J is into the arts side of things more and is doing music at college and learning how to play the guitar. I was told to put him onto omega3 (fish oil)capsules last year and I did this and he seemed to be more focused in class etc within 2 weeks. This year he has one in the morning and we live over the road from the college so he comes home for lunch and he has another then too. I realy do think it is helping him. "

" I am giving my daughter efalex ( efamol) . Have you heard about it, i have posted in omega 3 too about this. I use to give her 2 in the orning and 2 in the eve, but now i have increased to 3 & 3. She is overweigt and i guess she needs more. I am trying to reduce her weight by taking her for a walk but her it's always raining in the eve.AT least your son can read and write and cope with his school work. My daughter can read English better than Bahasa Malaysia (our national language) so i just concentrate on one language more than the other. This year she has to sit for her UPSR exam( we have this at 6th standard). From 13 years to 17 years old we send to secondary school , they have to pass in the final exam in order to go to college or university. Any other food that you think might be helpul? my children hate fish so it's difficult for me too. They love vegetables. "
