Has anyone had any success with Omega 3 capsules? My son has been taking 2 a day for about 7 weeks now. We thought we would give it a try to see if their is any improvement in him. We are going to stick at it for the full 3 months then review it. If you could let me know of any changes even slight in your children that would really help.

" Check out my other posts - I am probably the biggest proponent of taking Omega 3, 6 & 9 fatty acids to get rid of ADD symptoms.

I have been taking them 2x daily for nearly 2 years and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. This is the best thing that ever happened to me. My ADD symptoms are 95% gone, along with symptoms of Dyslexia, Apraxia and Dyspraxia as well.

My eyesight has also improved dramatically. Everyone, ADD or not should be supplementing like this, in fact my wife has joined me in this too because her glasses prescription is so drastic.

I highly recommend you find and read the book The LCP Solution asap. I think you will find that it contains a great amount of answers to your questions and offers significant hope of reversing the ADD / ADHD trend that is so prevalent in society today. "

" Do Cod Liver Oil tablets help too? Or is it just special Omega 3 tablets? "

" I take Cod Liver Oil as well, it is a really good source for pure Omega 3 fatty acids. I recently attempted to switch over to only cod liver oil capsules, however my Dyspraxic symptoms returned, as did some of my ADD symptoms. So I think for me a mixture of fats is the way to go.

If you're already taking cod liver oil capsules and not noticing an effect it may simply mean you are not taking enough. A couple capsules a day will probably help an average person without learning deficiencies, however for those of us who have them - our bodies need a lot more to achieve the same results. "

" My son's OT recommended Omega 3 but he has only been taking it for about three weeks, so it is too soon to see any difference. "

" To the question of noticing results from taking Omega 3 fatty acids.

(1) I highly recommend reading "The LCP Solution" by B. Jacqueline Stordy to gain an understanding of the science behind taking them to treat learning disabilities.

(2) I believe that as an adult I am more sensitive to seeing the changes in myself than a child would be themself. I did notice an almost immediate positive shift in my brain after 2 weeks of supplementation, thought the shift was VERY SMALL.

(3) Where the changes to my brain chemistry started to become apparent was at the 3 month mark. That was when I started to notice both an improvement in my memory - both in retention and retrieval.

(4) At month 6 my wife started to notice that my motor skills were improving in that I no longer bumped into things or accidentally bumped her with my hands when gesturing (Dyspraxia). My language skills also had improved (Apraxia), and my ability to focus improved as well (ADD).

(5) One year into taking daily fish oil - my eyesight improved .25 per eye along with a complete absence of my previous astigmatism condition.

(6) The benefits improve daily, though the outward visibility of those choices takes time. Checking in with the one who is taking them to see how they feel may help gauge the effectiveness. I also advocate that EVERYONE take them, not just the person with the learning deficiency. As humans we all need more Omega fatty acids in our diets.

(7) Work to remove foods and beverages that are high in sugar or contain trans fatty acids as both inhibit the benefits of fatty acids from being effectively installed. Trans fats block the bodies ability to make use of the Omega fatty acids, and sugar is a stimulant that impairs focus, thus masking any benefits from the fish oil.

(8) Dosage is the final thing. I based my dosage on the guidelines offered in the LCP book based on my personal weight. I take 3 capsules morning & night of the NOW brand Super Omega 3-6-9 plus take sips of Carlson Lemon Flavor Cod Liver Oil as well. Therefore I take quite a bit for my 190 lb frame.

Kayadam - I suggest giving yourself 6 months as a minimum time frame for results plus taking the fish oil yourself to see what benefits you may reap from it. You may also experiment with dosage. If you don't see any improvement within a month then I'd say up the dose (though I am no Dr. & this is merely my suggestion) "

" Thanks for the information you have posted NewStrength I am a dyspraxia sufferer myself and previously was taking a single Omega 3 fish oil tablet and before that taking a normal Omega 3. I have noticed improvements with these.

I've recently bought from Boots some "Brain & Heart Health - Super Strength Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000 mg", Fish Oil Concentrate 1000 mg, Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) 287 mg, Docosahexaenic Acid 191 mg.

Would it be recommended to just take one of these or two a day in your opinion. Do you think I should move onto taking the supplements you recommend in your post as an alternative to these?

I was also researching this site www.foodforthebrain.org

and read this article

"• Up your intake of essential omega 3 fats

This means eating fish at least twice a week, seeds on most days and supplementing omega 3 fish oils.

The best fish for EPA, the type of omega 3 fat that’s been most thoroughly researched are: mackerel (1,400mg per 100g/3oz), herring/kipper (1,000mg), sardines (1,000mg), fresh (not tinned) tuna (900mg), anchovy (900mg), salmon(800mg), trout (500mg). Tuna, being high in mercury is best eaten not more than twice a month.

The best seeds are flax seeds and pumpkin seeds. Flax seeds are so small they are best ground and sprinkled on cereal. Alternatively, use flax seed oil, for example in salad dressings. While technically providing omega 3 only about 5% of the type of omega 3 (alpha linolenic acid) in these seeds is converted in your body into EPA.

Do you think its worthwhile starting to try this, I am not keen on fish at all in fact I almost have a phobia of it but would be willing to try it if it helped. "
