Hey, I'm Andy

I'm a dance student and I've been looking on the interent for information on ways to support my studies.

I found out last year that I had dyspraxia but as yet I haven't learned any ways to help me cope with the demands of such high intensity dance training. I feel since i found out, I have just had it weighing on my mind making things even harder.

But if knowledge is the path to enlightenment then I hopefully im now heading down the right one. Some of my teachers now know about the issue and I should be seeing the academic tutor soon.

Are there any websites at all that give advice to dancers? I cant find any?

Thanks

Andy

" Hi Andy

It is very difficult with dyspraxia as people have such different symptoms and need different things, so what works for one person would not help another. What is it specifically that you have difficulty with? There is a very helpful yahoogroup for dyspraxia which may be able to help you. "

" I have worked in a mainstream school for many years and about 5 years ago a renowned young male ballet dancer came to give a demontration. He mesmerized adults and children as he showed us his powerful beautiful movements. He then told us that he had been excluded at school as he had been diagnosed with severe Dyspraxia and ADHD. With dancing he had overcome both and grown reached his true potencial. I now use a programme of exercise daily for children. You have to teach them differently in that all information must be given at their pace and the enviroment must have as little distraction as possible to avoid overload. I think being a successful dancer is an achievement in its self.
