It time we realized, that as a group, we could have substantial influence over legislation and elections; Influence that would highlight the need for more funding and education reform.

Even with conservative numbers, 10% of the US population has some form of dyslexia.
30,000,000 people with out a voice. School systems around the US know how to help. Because of programs like No Child Left Behind they are forced by restrictions on curriculum and are limited in the assistant that can be given during a standard test.

Over the years I have herd of politicians lining up to talk with groups like MADD which said in 1998 it represents 3,000,000 people. The NRA with it has nearly 3,000,000 members And Christian Coalition of America with 2,000,000. All of these groups are dedicated to there cause. And the politicians want there support.
The 30,000,000 plus Dyslexics go unheard even though we represent a broadest demographic covering the entire social and economic spectrum.

The concerns for though of us with this particular disability are the same for those with out it. How do we get the most out of the education system?

How do we allow teachers to do there jobs and inspire children.

It is time we dismiss the standardized test for any other purpose other then a bench mark to help recognize areas of weakness.

It is time we begin teaching the children how to learn instead teach them what to learn for “The Test”.

It is time that money spent on special educational service is seen as investment in the work force of tomorrow instead of a drain on local and state budgets today.

It time to look at ways to improve the education systems through the eyes of those who struggle with it and implement one of the enduring qualities of dyslexics’, creativity.
Be well

" I am dyslexic and I see some dyslexic symptoms in my son. I think this is the case with many dyslexics there seems to be some genetic based aspect.

On this basis you our right to say that we should act together as a group to improve education because it is quite likely that our own children will benefit.

In my own case my son was tested for TAG but did not pass the tests. He is a good reader and very creative. I cannot help but believe that the reason is that the standard tests are not good at identifying abilities outside the standard profile.

What do you think? "

" I find I dont talk about it at all outside DS - so I cant imagine that it would be taken notice of - perhaps that is because I am older? I find that if I say about my dyslexia people discard it, saying that I am making an excuse (they say this kindly,laughing...grrrr!) - or say that they are dyslexic too, when they patently are not...*sigh*...it would be soooo good if something could be done for all these people, the young ones, think it is a little late for me, but I'm all for supporting the young'uns...*big smile*...
