" Hi, I am Dyslexic and suffer with depression. Although depression runs in my family, and those members do not have dyslexia. I think the stress of having dyslexia and its implications could be the cause of some of the depression. As for the rest I think it is a hormone imbalance. I know how you feel it's tough! "

" My daughter has dyslexia , she also suffers from depression. I agree with Debora that having dyslexia can have its stressors and mayber cause one to become depressed. In middle school my daughter is considered so different from the other kids. They don't see her as just different though they see her as being less intelligent and thats not true. She has had to go through the years with other kids making fun and asking questions like why can"t you write like us. It obviously has effected her self esteem. Sigh "

" I have seen information to the effect that dyslexics have a problem with emotional regulation that can result in emotional problems including depression.

The problem can be aggravated by the invalidation a dyslexic can recieve at the hands of other children for being different.

I set up a group precisely for people who have become aware of the link between dyslexia and the development of emotional problems later in life.

" i have done some research into this for a case (im a trade union rep). depression can cause dyslexic symptoms in normally non-dyslexic symptoms and for those who already have symptoms depression can cause symptoms to become more prominant. stress has the same affect. in both cases it slows down cognitive ability.

how true this is im not sure but it seems to make sense? "
