Advice:
Seeking help for my son (in the UK)

I no that dyslexia runs in families but when I was a child my parents had never heard of it. It was only now at the age of 37 that my therapist picked up on it (he has a dyslexic son) and I had an initial test to confirm that there is a strong possibility that I am dyslexic. However, I can not afford the £500 price tag for a proper diagnosis.

However, I am coping well. It is my son that I am concerned about. I know he is struggling and he is falling behind in reading and writing. I have spoken to the school and asked for him to be tested but they think he is too young. I disagree. The struggles I had as a child he now has and it really hurts me to see him struggle.

He can not tell the difference between 'a' and 'e' etc and can not count as the numbers move about.

If his school will not listen to me, where do I go for help. I really do not want him to struggle the way I did as a child.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you.

" I don't know how old your son is but I to live with this and my son as well. Every state has puplic school testing but I really had to push. I ended up getting my son to work with a privet teacher to teach the wilson program I believe it really helped my son. Good luck and don't give up "

" I didn't see that you were from the uk. Sorry I don't know how things work by you but if you have lived with this I am sure you find ways to make things better for you. I have little tricks for myself. I am sure their must be something like this program I found for my son. It was a little strange and very different way of teaching how you sound things out and how letters look. "
