When there is an inadequate production of tears in the eyes, it leads to a condition known as Dry Eyes. As tears are composed of oil, water, proteins, antibody and mucus which keeps them moist all the time and also prevent them from micro-organisms. The person with Dry Eyes feels pain , itchiness, sensitivity towards light in his eyes. The thin cucumber slices relaxes the eyes, keeps them fresh and stimulate moisture production in them.
I have seen this information on a herbal site http://www.mamaherb.com/

Have you had your hormone levels tested? Menopause and pre-menopause can cause this. I have this too and I also have low progesterone so I'm wondering if the 2 are connected (I turned 30 this year).

Thanks Dr. O. for your comments, I have been newly dx'd with severe Dry Eye Syndrome.. must have had it for years. as the symptoms were there but thought it was just my hormones, as I am nearing 50 now. I visited that site http://www.dryeyezone.com/ and found it to be great reading and researched the medication the Dr prescribed and the drops and their ingredients. I couldnt afford the preservetive free ones, sometimes it is hit or miss and when they are individual doses the cost is great, I have to take lots each day. and will likely need Punctal plugs. my TBUT is 2 seconds, should be around 12 seconds.. that is when they use the Slit light test and see how fast the tears break up. I know mine are not good, without drops, I get this tunnel vision affect and a sensation of burning chemicals .. which is probably an imbalance of the fluid components in my eyes. When I first noticed it, I had just started wearing byfocals, and every so often one eye would be off and my perscription would go out. I had new lenses cut as they noticed a difference.. must have been a hormonal time when that was going on, the dr explained it like having a burn.. your body naturally builds fluid up like a blister.. inflaming the eye under the cornea.. that was what was triggering my visual disturbances.. I also started having Aura mirgraines at that time.. and light and flourescent colors would trigger them.. too wierd. Anyway. the drops the Dr recommended were BION drops, no preservatives.. the active ingredient is Dextran 70 and methylcellulose. I opted for Genteal Gel drops as they last longer in the eye, then the druggist helped me find another product. Tears Naturale Forte by Alcon.. they do have preservatives, but I try to be careful how I put them in, and usually wipe the tip of before I put the lid back on. The Dr also told me to take my Omegas 3 and 6, caps or fish, flax, or you can buy them all together with some other ingredients for treating Dry Eye.
Restasis is the new treatment and suppose to be good, but it isnt covered in BC. so I will have to go the povery treatment.. hahaha. Drops and Caps. and possibly plugs.

Hello everyone. I've had severe dry eyes for a few years since having lasik surgery. Bright lights, sitting in front of the computer screen for periods of time, or smoky, polluted air constantly irritated my eyes making then red & itchy and causing much discomfort.. I used tear drops and I tried taking 6-10 fish oil capsules daily for a month but it didnt help. So I gave up until I read this year about this green lip mussel oil supplement thats the strongest all natural omega3. Tried it & was shocked to find instant relief the next day & continue to have wet eyes all the time even in bright or smoky environments 3 months later as i continue to take this supplement daily-2 small soft gelcaps once a day-no side effects-all natural - pure with no fillers, chemicals, heavy metals. What a blessing :) If you would like more info, please email me at zakbar321@hotmail.com. Good luck.
