Sorry is this sounds gross to some of you, but it works for me. :)
ONE of my eye doctors suggested taking fish oil caps twice a day for dry eyes and says he recommends it to all his patients during the winter especially. I tried it and it worked. My OTHER eye MD had said no contacts right now due to irritation (my eyes are bulged some due to graves' disease unfortunately). BUT, I DID try the caps for about 4 days, then retried my contacts and even fell asleep in them and NO irritation or redness. WOW! My ENDO MD recommends artificial tear drops. No red eye drops cause your eyes can adjust to them and then when you DON'T use them they redness can come back even worse. :) Hope this helps some. The fish oil caps can cause a burp of fishy tasting burp (sorry to be gross) but I only have one burp after each cap and it's not overwhelming, just a little bit of a taste. Just to be honest. But it's SO worth it. That's the only side effect. Very mild, and only one burp. :) Posted on 02/11/07, 06:02 pm |

I had a lot of irritation. A number of eye docs had me using steroids like predniosne. Finally one noted I had ocular roscea along with my acne rosacea. The usual test also showed dry eye syndrome. Treated that with Restasis, 4 grams of Omega 3 fish oil, Systane and lots of water. It helped a lot. A lot less pain and light sensitivity.
The same doc suggested I change my eye hygiene to a scrub made with ten drops of tea tree oil and a tea tree oil therapeutic shampoo. Not only did this help my dry eyes and irritation but it worked for my acne rosacea. Have not had a bad outbreak since I started the program.

Forgot to mention a "cure" for the burbs. The best thing is to freeze the caps first.

I have heard flax seed mentioned a few times. I bought some flax seed to add to my food, a little here and a little there. I only got through one day of use because of the sick feeling my stomach had all day. I kept burping and tasting this strong vitamin like taste it was really unpleasant and unfortunately that has put me off. Has anyone else had this problem with flax seed, the whole, powder or pill form?

Flax seeds have little natural antioxidants. When the seed is ground and oxygen get to the oil it goes rancid very very quickly. That and the added fiber from the seeds are likely reasons for the stomach upset. It is the flax's Omega 3 oils that are supposed to affect the quality of the tears and help with dry eye
When he told me about fish oil my eye doc warned me not to use flax seed as a substitute. The Omega 3's need converting and the body needs a lot of flax and other stuff for a proper amount to be converted. He told me to only use fish oil. If you are a vegetarian you can substitute Chia seeds, ground or whole, black or white. While still not as good as fish oil chia seed oil is closer than flax. it also does not go bad like flax. I actually like the taste of ground chia seeds in my oatmeal.

Yes, Fish oil rocks! I found I have to take it consistently to really help. Have you also tried Systane Ultra? I have found it did wonders for my dry eye. I am even able to read my book late into the evening, which is a total treat.

Hello everyone. I've had dry eyes as far back as i can remember and severe dry eyes the last few years since having lasik surgery. Bright lights, sitting in front of the computer screen for periods of time, or smoky, polluted air constantly irritated my eyes making then red & itchy and causing much discomfort.. I used tear drops and I tried taking 6-10 fish oil capsules daily for months but it didnt help. So I gave up until I read this year that omega3 is the best remedy and that this green lip mussel oil supplement is the strongest all natural omega3 on the planet (supposedly more than 100 times more effective than fish oil and 400 times more effective than flax oil). Tried it & was shocked to find instant relief the next day & continue to have wet eyes all the time even in bright or smoky environments 3 months later as i continue to take this supplement daily-2 small soft gelcaps once a day-no side effects-all natural - pure with no fillers, chemicals, heavy metals. And I experienced other health benefits as well. What a blessing :) If you would like more info or to know where to order it (they have a 3 month money back guarantee) , please email me at zakbar321@hotmail.com. Good luck.
