Sam in a wheelchair

Just wanted to update and give a warning., Sam has been limping on and off since March. I was having trouble getting a referral to an ortho . My own gp is semi retired and his partner brushed me off and said I was imagining things,. nothing really showed on an xray in the emergency room., I finally got to see my own long time gp and he immediately took my word for things. He told me he did not even have to examine Sam and sent us straight back to the emergency room with very specific instructions. We got an immediate referral to an orthopedic surgeon who took one look at Sams xrays and admitted him for surgery the next day. Sam has SUFE slipped upper femoral epiphysis . He had to have screw placed in his upper thigh/hip area and is now in a wheelchair for the next three months. May be less if his healing goes well. Sam is a big boy and its not easy to manage him. Sam himself makes it easy though. He has been so good through it all. No tears , all smiles and hugs and actually staying on the bed or in the wheelchair. ( he did forget twice though ) . Its likely the other hip will have to be done soon and at the first hint of a limp we need to have him seen to have it done. If your child is limping do not take no for an answer!!!!

" I am way behind in my reading but went through this with my son as well.Had to have the same surgery twice because the doctor put the pin too close to his hip and it was rubbing the bone. He still complains at times but the last time I took him to the doctor he told me to give it 3 more months. Give me a break... "

" Sorry to hear that Sam is going thru so much, hope he recovers quickly.
It seems to me that some doctors just don't listen to reg. folks, like mothers.
Just to get a simple skin test done on my sons rash the doctor told me it was not needed. We just give you another prescribtion for a another cream and see if this works was the answer.
I am glad you are so persistent and got to your reg. dr. and he sent you back to the ER with instructions.
Hope he recovers well, you and Sam are in my thought. "
