Advice:
down's and leukemia?

Hi, my son is 14 and i am rather worried about him, H has had a cough which just will not go away, he has started having night sweats, and has now started to complain about his side hurting him, left side just below ribs, I am sure this is where the spleen is? we have a doc's app today but i do not want to come across as being overly protective but leukemia has played a big part in my life with my hubby and mother both having gone through this cancer. I am aware that people with DS are at a high risk or getting leukemia so i am really worried and have a feeling that something is wrong with him. He is also very tierd, more than normal for him, and quiet pale. Am i being silly or do you think there is cause for concern? thanks nikkijack

" You are not being over protective. If you ever have any concerns medically then you do need to get them checked out . A blood test to check his platelets and clotting may put your mind at rest. I would also get his thyroid checked out and iron count. Its easy to connect the dots on all these symptoms but they may not all be connected. Don't panic but do get your son checked out and push hard to get answers. Our kids are more prone to this disease but it is usually from birth to 6 years if that's any help. Good luck and do let us know how things went if you can . "
