Hi there! I am a 32 year old female from BC Canada. I am a total worry wart and do have anxiety. It has been severe in the past but I am able to function fairly normally now. I still have problems coping with stress though.
Anyways, I believe I may have vertigo. I had a couple brief episodes of feeling dizzy and feeling like I was on a boat this past week but last night as I was getting ready for my cousin's wedding, I felt extremely unbalanced and like I was going to fall down. I felt nauseous and couldn't enjoy myself at all! I kept having to sit down and no one would take me seriously, they just thought I was anxious. But this was different - I have never had this before! It was so awful, I actually felt like I was dying. I am worried because I hit my forehead fairly hard a few weeks ago and am wondering whether I am now getting symptoms of some kind of head injury ( I am a nurse so I tend to think the worst medically:) Today I felt ok but now, even just typing this, it is very difficult and making me feel ill. IF you have felt like this and have any advice or insight for me, please write back! This is so horrible- I have never had this before!! Posted on 11/07/09, 11:11 pm |

I'd go see an ENT or maybe get an MRI or something. I think vertigo and dizziness can bring on anxiety because I never had a problem with it til my vertigo episode 3 mos ago. And my husband has told me a few times that he thinks I'm worrying too much and blah blah and I informed him that it's not in my head.....my heart DOES race when I get dizzy and I can't help it!!! Sounds like you are having panic attacks. I feel for you. It's miserable. Being a nurse, I hope you are able to see some good doctors.

Hi Laura,
I think you should have either a ct or MRI of your brain. The fact that your vertigo started after a head injury should be investigated. Hopefully, they will show nothing. But, you will have peace of mind. Take care, Mary Anne

Hi Cormy,
It seems like since you had some head trauma to start with a neurologist. ENT's are good too. But so often refer you too a neurologist[sometimes]. I say start with them. The "brain" doctor. I'm sorry you feel this way i hope you feel better soon. When you 1st get these symptoms, its the worse because you dont know how to handle it,its new and its scary because you dont know what the hell is going on. One thing i can assure you, It will get better at some point. Just try to relax when it happen [IF] it happens again, and breath and try to focus on something and take your mind off of it. Everyone here understand what your going through to some extinct. So stick around and ask tons of questions. And even on your good days so we can be encouraged with hope! ~Candy

like the rest, I agree on seeing a Neuro for some cat scans or something...what ever u do do not go to a GP for your dizziness...they will give you meclizine and send u on your way. Go see and ENT. JUst from you saying that while you were writing the post on the computer and began to feel bad shows signs of vertigo.

Thank-you all so much for your replies. I feel much better today but am so worried that it will happen again. Laura: trust me, this is no panic attack. I have had panic attacks for years and this was definitely not one. Of course the vertigo does make me anxious but not enough to cause an actual attack.
So I did go to a walk-in clinic today and the doc checked me out a bit; doubted that it had anything to do with me hitting my head several weeks ago; gave me a prescription for Serc but told me only to use it if it gets really bad and gave me a req for vestibular rehabilitation with a physio if needed. Anyways, I am really hoping this was just a weird incidence that won't happen again! Thank-you all so much for your comments and advice:) I can't imagine feeling like that all the time and my heart really goes out to those who do!!

HI Cormy, I am a little concerned that the Dr gave you Serc, that is specifically for Meniere's Disease. I would go see another Dr if I were you and ask him to refer you to an ENT who will test you for MD. The fact your dizziness started after a head trauma worries me also, definitely get yourself checked out more. I have had bi-lateral MD for 20+ years and take Serc daily to control it, it is not a drug you want to be taking unnecessarily, it's quite hard on your stomach and will also produce nausea and dizziness symptoms. PLEASE get more medical advice. Good luck.
