Question about Balance Therapy

I am starting balance therapy on Monday. I have been swaying (constantly, it doesn't let up at all) for six weeks now. I was wandering if it gets worse before it gets better when you first start the head exercises. Because my therapist did a head exercise with me during the evaluation and ever since then I've been even dizzier and off balance and sick to my stomach. It would make sense to me to have it get worse before better. I just wandered if anyone else could share their expierences with me. I'm so nervous that the swaying will never go away.

I had an appointment with the balance therapy. But I didnt make it due to the swine flu.
Do you sway 24/7 all the time standing and sitting all the time?

Yes I sway all the time standing and sitting. I don't notice it as much when I am up walking around but it is still there. I am praying that the balance therapy will work. But do you think that it will get worse before it gets better?? I'm just wandering if it is a good sign that I got nausea and bad from doing the head exercises thursday or if its a bad sign? What do you think?

I can only make a guess from my own experience...
but I would say... Yes. It can get worse before it gets better. This was my experience with vestibular rehabilitation. And I *did* get better.

I agree with Bee,
With EVERY therapy, it gets worse before it gets better. I hope it work for us all in the long run. My heart goes out to you swaying all the time like that. I sway too, but mostly when I lay down. But not all the time.(knock on wood)

I've had two appointments so far. The therapist did some evaluations and gave me some exercises to do. I have spinal problems as well. I have friends who take Antivert. Maybe this could help you, while you are going through therapy. I have problems standing and she gave me exercises for this. My lower legs buckle and I sway. She is trying to strengthen my legs. Make sure you do your exercises at home if you can. Take care, MaryAnne

Dyana,
Have you seen an ENT or a neurologist? Had an MRI? If not, I'd start with the ENT and if that doesn't help, try a neuro. They may recommend an MRI and more tests. Laura

Hi Dyana,
I saw an ent and the audiogist did an eng which showed a loss of balance on my right side. The therapist is trying to retrain my brain to adapt to the loss of balance. I have neck and spinal issues also that have contributed to it. Good luck, MaryAnne
