Hey guys....so, going through these posts and I am like shocked to see how many of you/us are saying we have stress/anxiety/panic either during these vertigo episodes or around the same time.
My question to EVERYONE??? Do you suffer from anxiety? Do you notice your vertigo comes when your stressed in ur life? Did you have stress/anxiety BEFORE vertigo or did you develop it after all this came? I am sooo convinced that our disorder is directly linked with stress. I wish some amazing brain doctor would get the funding to test my theory:( Posted on 10/30/09, 09:10 pm |

I never had anxiety before vertigo. I am a high strung person. Type A for sure. I get nervous about some things....like when I see my MIL. Or being around a lot of people because I am an introvert. But I had several anxiety attacks during my bout with vertigo. My heart would race for no reason. I would get really nervous about being alone and felt I needed to be with someone. My blood pressure shot up. Anyway, after my anxiety attacks, I realized that I have never been "anxious" before. Just a little nervous.
My symptoms had about disappeared and I was feeling lots better til this week and I am definitely stressed. I am trying not to be and trying not to worry about things I can't change but it's hard. I am a SAHM so thankfully I don't have work pressures. But I think we all have stress. Anyone who's breathing has stress. Dizziness/vertigo is no fun! Laura

I agree everyone has stress for sure! There are just humans who are more anxious than other....more prone to anxiety attacks and just anxiety and the symptoms that follow
I just think it amazing that most people who have vertigo problems have a quit of anxiety as well.

That is so true. I never had anxiety before I got the vertigo. With my other autoimmune disease I get a lot of pain and some weakness but it never caused me anxiety. I just knew if I had a good day to do more or lay low on a bad one. Vertigo is so uncontrolable to me. I get anxiety because I have no knowledge when it will hit or for how long. I do not get the spins much but more of a dizzy, off balanced thing. All my testing came back normal so who knows.
I have some meds for it but I am already on steroids and don't like to mix drugs. Bunkie

I certainly see a tie between anxiety and vertigo. I have had a lot of anxiety, particularly in the work setting, most of my life. I prefer to call it "performance anxiety" in the workplace. I had just started a new job with a lot of new responsibilities 6 months before my first 6 month bout with vertigo. Then while I have vertigo I feel depressed because I can't really be a part of my "regular" life. My mother-in-law also gets vertigo and she says hers is tightly linked to stress and fatigue. I think the stress theory is also why the doctors can't find anything "wrong" with us. I think they're looking in the wrong place sometimes. I have a neurology appointment on 11/9 and I found a neuro-otologist that I hope to be able to see.

Hi Dyana,
I wish I could say something to make it all better but all I can say is that we are all with you sister! it sucks! Just go see doc like ENT's get all the testing done and hopefully you can come down to something. Like me, after about 4-5 I got a diagnosis finally of vestibular neuronitis

I like the idea of being able to come to a diagnosis. For me, it's nice to have some closure. Are there any treatment options for vestibular neuronitis??

no, just physical therapy which is amazing!! u have to remember, because the virus or what ever attacked the vestibular nerve in my ear it is now inflammed. Which causes an imbalance because the signals between the ears, brain, and eyes are all messed up. Vestib excersises helps that.
