Hi all,
I've been suffering form vertigo for three years now. I've gone through three mri's with contrast, 2 ct's, seen two ents, 2 neurologists one in Boston, all the bloodwork, tests for lupus, lyme disease, etc. You name it I've had it .Luckily all my tests came back normal. I also had two sinus surgeries hoping it would help as I had ear fullness and pain. They were hoping my sinuses were draining into my ears. Well that didn't help either. My ent doesn't think it's menieres as I have had no hearing loss. I do suffer from migraines and anxiety but the vertigo brought the anxiety on from worrying if I had some horrible disease and no one giving me any answers. The worst for me is that I can't stay online long as the computer screen brings it on. Driving can be a challenge but the worst is shopping. Any major dept stores or grocery stores and I feel like I'm walking on a slant the whole time. It's awful..I have become a shut in :( It has so much to do with lighting and patterns. Does anyone else have similar issues? Thanks so much and I'm so happy I found this place!!!! Hugs... Kris :O) Posted on 10/26/09, 12:10 pm |

Hi Kris!
Welcome, I'm sorry under the circumstances. I have the same issues. I'm lucky that being online doesn't effect me, thank Gawd..I need my computer!!Shopping can be challenging but i do it anyway. I try not to make this ruin my life. I have to live you know. And I think if you sit around it makes it worse. Don't get me wrong, this can be debilitating to the point you cant do nothing but lay around. But if you aren't, get up and do! You have come to the right place. I am a veteran here. You may get a response from me all the time.

Sounds like the same tests I've been through with no answers.I wear sunglasses everywhere I go even indoors,I don't care what people think as long as I can do what I need to get done.

Hello Kris,
I'm new around here too, but not new to dizziness. Have you seen a neuro-otologist? That's who specializes in inner-ear disorders. You can read more about inner-ear disorders at www.vestibular.org I have many of the same symptoms. Shopping, computer screens, florescent lights, patterned carpets, blinking lights, etc. all make me dizzy. Vestibular rehabilitation has helped me some.

Hi Samuelbears.......Welcome...we are alll here for you and we totalllly understand what you go through on a daily basis. Gosh I remember when the grocery store brought anxiety and so much fear. Just walking around and people have not idea how we really feel inside:( 3 years is too long to go on like this. You need to go have allll the test done and now that you mention migraines you need to go see a nuerootologist for MAV. I highly recommend vestibular exercises from a Ear physical therapist. You have to re-reach your brain and get all the signals balanced again so you dont have the vertigo.
Do you get the actual room spinning or just the foggy, off balanced feeling?

When it first happened it was like I was spinning and couldn't even walk in a straight line and was sick to my stomach. I was on the couch for about a month. Icouldn't even look in a mirror to do my hair and makeup or drive. I couldn't read, I was basically useless. It has slowly gotten easier to deal with. It was three years on Sept 11th. My doc wonders if me watching the footage from 9/11 set me off...anxiety maybe? I don't know. I was just recently put on diazapam and I have to say it works pretty good. Way better than meclazine..I hate that stuff!
Now it is more like I'm always a little dizzy...It's more me spinning than the room. Sometimes it's like I feel my eyes are crossed..it's weird. I also notice if I look down to long it gets way worse. I have to sleep in a semi sitting up position..if I don't I will get alot of ear pain and dizziness. When I'm in stores I always feel like I'm wakling on a slant...which bites when most of the shopping carts tend to go off in one direction..lol! My ear pain has let up alot but I have to wear earmuffs when I go out on windy days as that will start my ear pain. My ENT has been pretty useless and I have had two so far. I'v had every test under the sun..I feel pretty hopelesss. I have my good and bad days and I really really appreciate my good days. I took so much for granted feeling good all the time. My triggers are looking down for too long, concentrating on any object to long, patterns, mirrors, store lighting, computer screens, looking through the winshield and being tired. I can't drive at night as the lights off the other cars are horrible..ugh...makes me sick to think about! My Neurologist just put me on verapamil for migraines...It's a blood pressure medication. I think it has worked very well so far. I did realize that the things that cause my vertigo to get worse are also triggers for people who get seizures. I've had that testing also so it's not that. I'm so happy to have met you all...It's nice to talk to others who know what it's like... no one else in my life understands how horrible this is. Hugs to you all... Kris :O))))

You mention that you have had a lot of tests.
Have you had an ENG? I can relate to all of the symptoms that you mention. Store lighting, patterned carpets, floors seeming to slant...ugh.
