You have to take him to a balance specialist to be evaluated. The emergency rooms can't really help with this very much--it will take time for him to feel better and get treatment. Many people on this forum suffered for a long time before they were able to get better or get good treatment.
In Az, there is a place called Arizona Balance Associates; http://azbalance.com/ I am not sure if they have doctors on staff, but they can refer you to good doctors that specialize in balance disorders. Those doctors are called neuro-otologists, and they will be able to evaluate and treat your son the best, as they have the most experience with balance problems. If his current medication is not working, he may need additional medications or other treatment that will help him function better. Don't give up---there is help out there, you just have to find it.

You son sounds like he is in a crisis situation; it may not be "all in his head" , but he is certainly feeling pretty depressed and helpless at this point. You have to give him some hope that you can figure this out. If he has computer access, you can tell him to come here and tell us his story, maybe we can offer him some support.

I know how he feels, irm. I agree with the others, he needs to see someone who specializes in balance. I went to an otolaryngologist for answers.

I agree with the above a specialist is in order. It's in his head but not the way you thought! There is help he just needs the right doctor. most Dr's don't specialize in what we have (MDs, ENT's etc) usually they boil it down to an inner ear infection which those of us that have it, end up at a specialist in the end bc nothing those doctors give us help. I know and I'm sure most others know exactly what he's going through, regardless if he has the money or his insurance pays for it he has to go. He can't go on living like that because of no money, maybe they can work out a payment plan. please see that he goes to a specialist. Good luck to you both.

i am another that agrees with everyone. You son needs to know there is help out there, he needs to be reassured that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even if he dont feel like it is. Sometimes i dont feel like it is..but just trying to focus on that may help a little. I will be more than willing to go in dept if i would have to-to get the proper treatment. He hasn't seen anyone that specialize in this. Like the others suggested. And YES it is literally in his head...thats what makes this so hard to deal with.. Ask him to come here and talk with us. That has helped me A LOT knowing I'm not alone, and there are others suffering just as bad as him for years and coping.
God Bless him. I pray he gets some relief.

Sounds like he is having a rough time of it. Hubby was the same way, took him to the ER, I thought he was having a stroke. He was sent home with pills. Nothing seemed to work, got him into a ENT, again given meds that only put him to sleep and made him feel worse. He was diagnosed with Menieres disease. I started looking on the Internet, and found a write up about Flavinoids, vitimins for the ear. So I went to the Pharmacy and picked up Lipo-Flavinoid. He started taking them, two caplets, three times a day, and they seem to be working. Haven't had a dizzy spell in about three months. These have been his life saver. Here in Canada we can only get the regular strength, but in the US, we picked up Extra Strength, and you only take one caplet, thre times a day.

Irm, I completly understand what your son is going through. I am currently in the same position, since 2003 I have healt with vertigo as a result of a car accident. I have been "cured" many times, so he may want to see a neurologist and see about getting some vestibular therapy on a regular basis. I have had many doctors try to help me but in my case it keeps returning. I too am also out of options, it is depressing when no one can answer you when it comes to getting rid of this condition. It may sound funny but also talking to a therapist about how he's dealing with this emotinally may help him in the long run. People dealing with vertigo do get depressed because sometimes there is no answers, you just have to deal with it sometimes. I feel for you son and hope he gets some relief in the very near future.

I feel the same as he does,my heart races when I feel dizzy and I get very depressed too. I find reading other peoples posts help because you realize that other people suffer in the same way. Tell him to go on www.dizzytimes.com this is a brillant website. i have found many tips on there. I think the best advise of all is to keep moving not to stay in bed, even if it is just walking around the room.
