Question regarding BPPV
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
Hello all...about 2 weeks ago, I turned over in bed and got "the spins". Since then, I've come to realize this is likely BPPV. The symptoms have decreased and typically only happen when I'm in bed or bend way over and stand up suddenly. I guess my biggest concern , and the question I can't seem to find an answer to online, is whether these attacks tend to get worse over time. I'm a nurse myself and am concerned that someday I won't be allowed to practice. Because of this concern (especially since my husband is now out of work), I'm leary about going to the doctor and then having this problem formally show up on my health history.

" I have had BPPV since 2007 my first bout i had extreme spins that lasted for 15 hours and i couldn't move or get out of bed...since then i have had several more but none as bad as the first one thankfully...i'm not sure where your from but try to get an EPLEY done this helps a lot and in some places a physio can do them for you or specialist nurse...so you won't need to go to the doctors unless things get worse or you think it might be something else....i can carry on with my normal life it just sometimes i have bouts of being off balance and bad nausea for which i take Betahistine this seems to helps with both but for my very bad attacks i take STEMETIL or BUCASTEM both the same i think its just the second works alot faster...hope this helps "

" Thanks for your experience. I have to say, other than a few seconds of a spinning feeling when I'm in bed, it's extremely mild and I've been lucky enough to have no associated nausea. No ringing/popping ears, etc. So, based on some of the other stories, such as yours, of being incapacitated for hours/days, I'm a little worried the symptoms may worsen. But, if this is as bad as I'll get, I can certainly live with it. Guess I'll count my blessings! "

" I had the "spins" for years. Took Meclizine, it helped. One day I happened to go to my Chiropractor while I was having an attack, she said she could cure it. I was ready to try anything at that point. She stretched the muscles on both sides of my neck. So, everytime I got an attack, I would go to her. I think she cured it, because I haven't had an attack in almost 2 years! "
