I am new to this group and have only been dealing with this vertigo sensation for a little more than two weeks. I am trying to get thru the posts but am particularly dizzy right now! LOL! so, before i get bug-eyed trying to look thru everything in this group, i thought i'd post a few quick questions to help me thru this vertigo-panic I am trying to fight off.
Short version: Friday diagnosis of Labryinthitis due to dizziness, but some neurological symptoms; we have a super high history of stroke in my family, i have super high cholesterol and am getting new bloodwork done for cholesterol and thyroid. Have had underactive thyroid in the past. Have not had thyroid or lipids tested in a year due to chronic back problems and my third surgery and recovery getting in the way of my worry about my everything else. Dr.s on friday could not "rule out" a mini stroke/TIA but i don't think it was a TIA. (see my latest journal entry for the long version) QUESTIONS: 1. The Antivert I started Friday seems hit or miss. is this common? and will i be able to go to work and take antivert? will i be alert enough/awake enough? 2. The diagnosing PA said also could have been too much ssri, Anti-depressants. I had my antidepressant, cymbalta, increased 6 weeks ago to the max dosage. but NOW i'd have a problem? Has anyone else had a dr tell them the antidepressants are overloaded and making you dizzy? 3. How can underactive thyroid be fixed? will it make the dizziness go away?? I know these are big questions, but thought I'd start by asking for ANY opinion on ANY of these topics! I am one of the administrators of a group called positive sufferers of chronic pain, and recently, i've had a significant reduction in pain and increase in my mobility and now THIS!! Trying to keep on smiling! xo Mary Beth Posted on 04/05/09, 05:04 pm |

I use to take the antivert and it helped for the dizziness ( was great when it worked!) but I was told my my ENT it should only be used for a few days at a time. this is after I told him that I had been on it for a month with no change in my dizziness! he also told me that the meds could cause more dizziness! I also would like to hear what other people think about this.

Hi, Mary Beth. I had an MRI today for my vertigo = waiting for results but I found your post interesting since I have low thyroid, pain and am on antidepressants as well. I can tell you that the thyroid medication does not help with the vertigo - at least for me. The medication also improved my pain levels.
I would guess that you have dizziness because of the labrynthitis but of course, I'm not the doctor. Good luck to you!
