Trouble with Fiber

Since my attack, I have taken a Benefiber-type supplement in juice twice daily. I almost always have slight pain/discomfort. When I stop the fiber, I have no pain/discomfort. I've tested this a couple of times. How do you all deal with getting 35 grams of fiber, and does the Benefiber-type cause problems for anyone else? I don't think I could get enough from diet only.

" I could not tolerate the fiber supplement. Constipated me for the first time in my life and I drank 8 glasses of water a day. I did much better eating foods with high fiber. However, during attacks eat low fiber, then increase slowly.

When you increase your fiber intake, it must be done slowly. Try eating more fruits and vegetables, beans, etc. Eat less red meat. Chew everything well. Lot's of water, some exercise. "

" There is this fantastic bread I get at my local Costco's store. It is called "Granny's High Fiber, Whole Wheat Bread". It is so yummy and it has six grams of fiber per slice. Another thing I take is ground flax seed. I put it in just about anything. The fiber content is high. You can sprinkle it on salads, put in smoothies, juice, soup, etc. But make sure you drink plenty of water. I can' t get enough from diet only as well. Good luck. "

" I tried the Benefiber and had horrible results. Stomach pain and terrible uncontrollable gas (which I never had before). I threw it out and upon the advice of 2 different doctors, purchased Citrucel (with the blue lid) not sure how its different from the orange lid, but it works very effectively and little or no gas with absolutely no stomach pain. Hope it works for you. "

" Thank you all for your responses! I'm off the Benefiber, and I will look for some flaxseed and Citrucel with the blue lid. Boy, it's awful to obsess about this stuff--but it is never off my mind! "
