Anyone else out there that is under the age of 40 and has had diverticulitis? I am a 34 year old male and have had 2 episodes of diverticulitis. The first one was when I was 30 and it ended up with me having surgery to remove part of my colon. I am currently fighting this again and slowly going down the same path. All of the info I have read states how rare this disease is in people under 50 and once one surgery is performed, the chances are under 20% of re-accurance. Why can't I beat this types of odds when I play the lottery?

I have read on line that this disease is congenital. I don't know if I believe it's congential or just not getting enough fiber. It's crazy that you are so young and have been thru all this!--Mazy

I feel your pain. I am 29 and just had my colon surgery. Prior to that I had over 14 attacks (since 25) Had my first attack when I was 13. I am sorry to hear you think you are going down the same path again. What do you mean by that are you feeling sick? Did you get another attack? I really hope you can beat it. Just keep on a bland diet as hard as that is and don't eat big meals in one sitting. Good luck keep us posted!

Last week I was hospitalized for another attack and it was very severe. I had a perforation but it closed itself off. I have to have a total colectomy in a few weeks and I am very nervous. I hope you are doing better.
