Here is a great article in Diverticulitis Management. One of the big conslusions is stay away from NSAIDs like Advil and Asprin. The theory goes that they slow or stop blood flow to the mucus membraenaes of the colon.

Read the conclusion to get most of the good stuff out of this long article.

Tylenol is not on this list (I have seen it on others - maybe and error). I use Tylenol only.

" Hi Lozzy,

If I take Advil, about 2 days latter I get wicked heart burn. I must drink a coke during this period, but it will not go down. It fizzes up and out of my mouth. I have to force it down many times before all the acid clears from my esophoguas. If I do not take Advil, I have no problem at all. An antacid does nothing to help me.

Some over-the-counter drugs are more dangerous than the commercials lead you to believe.

I have been through this 3 times so I know it is a real side affect for me. I cannot explain how that happens. "

" I can't take NSAIDS either because of severe acid reflux. I can tolerate Tylenol in little doses, but it's still not great on the stomach.

P.S. I work in clinical trials of pain meds, and not every drug on that list is an NSAID. There's a couple of Cox inhibitors mixed in, like Celebrex, which have their own problems. "
