I am having my entire colon removed tomorrow. My surgeon is planning to do the procedure laparoscopically and hopes that he will be able to attach my small intestine to my rectum without me having an ostomy. Has anyone had this done? Does anyone have any advice? Thank you!

Good luck and God Bless. It will take awhile to recuperate but you will get better each day. Walk around as much as possible and make sure you are getting adequate pain relief. take care, Mary Anne

I don't know anyone who has had this done so I don't have any advice for you, but want to wish you my best. I'm sure it's done and over now, I hope it was successful. -Shauna

I posted to this site a while back....titled New to this site.......please go back and read my comments. I also had it done. The Dr. did leave me about 5 inches of colon from that surgery, so I did not need the ostomy, which I am very grateful for. They did not do mine laparoscopic cause he didn't know what he was going to find when he went in. I was bleeding so much internally as well as externally. This has been a LIFE CHANGING surgery for me........but, you do learn to deal with it.....That was 2 years ago! Things are getting better for me but when my husband got sick in Dec. 2007 and died in Jan 2008......while helping a nurse put pillows behind him, and me pulling on the draw sheet. I ruptured the colon incision inside at the naval. Last October I had to have surgery again, this time incisional hernia. My surgery was a very large incision........you may not have that problem. Just take care of yourself afterward. don't rush anything and take all the time in the world to HEAL!!! outside and inside. I you need more info contact me by message.....Good luck with your surgery........best wishes.......Jenny

And to Zelsie; thank you for openly sharing your experience. I have diverticulitis,i am 56 with other health issues, and have had two flare-ups treated with anti-biotics. The doctor calls it "mild", but it was and is painful. Hearing from people like yourself, gives me hope to get through tough times. thanks.
