I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis on July 16th when I went to the hospital with what I thought was appendicitis (right sided pain). They determined I have diverticulitis. I was in the hospital for 3 days, off work for 2.5 weeks and on a 2-week course of levaquin and flagyl.
I do have a GI doc, with a colonoscopy scheduled September 10th. My problem is, I've had serious diarrhea since July now! I've lost 12 lbs. in 5 weeks and I have no appetite. My diarrhea is astonishingly watery too -- there's nothing remotely solid or even soft about it. It's pure liquid, Is this just a part of diverticulitis? I also have upper abdominal pain - it feels like my stomach is on fire almost all of the time. Oddly, the lower quadrant right-sided pain is completely gone (and has been for weeks). I was tested for Celiac's disease a few months ago (with a food allergy test) and was negative for that. Should I just wait for the colonoscopy to see what the doc says? Hey Reid, I was also diagnosed thinking I had appendicitis. I'm not sure about the diarrhea,tho. Has your doc said anything about probiotics? I'm fairly new to this stuff, but I think they have helped me a bit. I'm not sure the pain ever goes away completely. Mine comes and goes. Be sure to keep hydrated (if you are an athlete, you probably know that.)--Mazyjo

Sometimes after the antibiotics people get c-diff which causes diarrhea. the docs can do a stool sample for it. I wuld let your new gastro know waht is going on. amanda

I think the diarrhea is from the meds. I was told that anytime you are on antibiotics, you should probiotics to help prevent diarrhea and yeast infections.
I personally use Renew Life (brand) Utlimate Flora Critical Care which has 50 billion probiotics. You can find these at any health food store, I have been told to stick with the kind that need to be refrigerated (and are sold refergerated).
