Advice:
Is this a complication of diverticulits?

I've had diverticulitis for six years. With the first acute episode six years ago.

Last Sunday I ended up at the ER with chest pains and difficulty breathing. All the tests so far have shown my heart to be healthy and not the source of the problem. My physician does not know what caused my acute symptoms and is trying to rule items out.

When I had my first acute episode I was doubled up with abdominal pain - which I guess is more typical.

Has anyone had chest pain, shortness or breath, dizziness, and fatigue because of diverticulitis?

Fortunately my symptoms are getting better a little day by day.

Dave

" No, your symptoms don't seem to track with diverticulitis. Could it be an anxiety attack? Any raging infection will cause fatigue, but your temp and blood work should show that. "

" Hi Dave:

Last March I called 911 with chest pains, middle front chest, along the chest and through the back. Also had a tightness. Tests done through the night, so far no sign of heart problem. But just hours into the night, I started to throw up and have terrible diarrea..and no one know why. They gave me an anti-nausea pill and sent me home a few hours after observation and a glass of apple cider.

I got home and threw up and had more diarrea. That subsided within a day or two, but went to work for an entire week with discomfort to my abdomin. Fever, PAIN, and yellow/gold stools. Then to my primary care doctor about the time I could barly stand. Next day, CT scan..."DIVERTICULITIS!"

I was to have a stress test for my heart this past Thursday, (heart probs do run in my family) but I got another bout of diverticulitis! Geesh!

So, no one is saying that the chest pains are related to the big "D"...but who knows. I also had a gall bladder ultrasound last week and that was negative.

Can you possibly have kidney stones? Have they checked your gall bladder? Gall bladder pains can be in the chest, back and are gripping.

Take care,

Dana "

" Dave, I don't know what else it would detect, but a ct scan confirmed each of the three diverticular attacks I've had. I had pain (bloated feeling) in my upper abdomen, but lower than my chest. Have you had a ct scan to confirm/rule out a diverticulitis attack? "

" With diverticulitis, I would be very careful about colon cleansing of any type including the reference in Reply #4. "
