I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis a few years ago during my routine colonoscopy. In the past month, I've had two bouts of stomach pain, nausea, fever & diarrhea. I assumed I had a stomach bug, but my sister reminded me of the diagnosis. I had completely forgot about it. I'm convinced now that it was the diverticulitis flaring up after looking the symptoms up online.
Should I call my doctor or let this episode pass like it did a few weeks ago? Has anyone found life-style changes that worked? I did have a couple glasses of wine the evening before both these flare-ups. Could have have contributed? Thanks in advance for any advice. -Joanne Posted on 09/15/11, 01:00 pm |

I would call the doctor and speak with him to see if it could be diverticulitis. You may need a blood test. If you don't treat it you could end up in big trouble (ER) or you may just never get over it and it keeps returning very frequently. I am working on eating fiber and staying away from coffee and I now only have a very little wine occasionally. (1/2 glass). I have had episodes when I thought I did all things right and I have had episodes when I knew I ate something I shouldn't have (corn). And it seems that stress is a major instigator of an attack. You don't want emergency surgery, it pays to find out for sure if you are having an episode. Good luck to you.
