I am looking to start a class, its cardio and weights, definetly makes you sweat the whole time! The problem is its only 2 days a week, is this enough exercise to help lose weight and tone up? I would say no, but im looking for other peoples advice on how much exercise is needed a week.

" My opinion: your class will definitely help. Some exercise is better than none, and every single bit of exercise that you do will help you lose weight and tone up. But I would throw in at least one more day of pretty vigorous exercise, and on your "down" days, where you don't do vigorous exercise, I would recommend about 20 to 30 minutes of lighter exercise - like 30 minutes of walking - maybe broken up into three 10 minute walks or two 15 minute walks, or 10 to 15 minutes of stretching plus a 10 to 15 minute walk, something like that. I add the lighter exercise to the mix because the last recommendations I read on exercise for overall health said to do at least some light exercise most days. "

" The other reason I suggest doing at least some light exercise every day is . . . yes, we all want to lose some weight and tone up. But many of us are trying to develop healthy lifestyles and habits. There is no healthier habit than exercise. So I think it is a good idea to try to get at least some exercise every day - just to get yourself and keep yourself in the habit. "

" I agree with the daily exercise, any exercise no matter how small. On my down days, I try to walk with my husband at night (.5 to 2 miles). We have a membership to a gym, which I use when I am up (water aerobics, fast walking on treadmill or strength training-with husband as a trainer). I tend to start out really gungho and fade out.

It's a real challenge to keep up the activity everyday. I reward myself internally with an affirmation when I do it, and it makes it easier the next time I exercise. When I am really down, I garden, cook, do light stretching, clean the house (usually one task or one room at a time) just to get the blood moving. It really helps with the paralysis of depression and remaining focused in mania.

My therapist said that the best 3 aspects of survival are: Sleep/Meds/Regular Exercise. It has to do with endorphins in your brain which helps regulate BP sufferers like us.

Good luck. Hope you find your rhythm. "
