Hi,

I am new to DS. I am recently married, and I really would like to get healthy, so that I can spend a long and happy life with my new husband.

I am severly addicted to food (as most of you probably understand), and I need to find a way to work through it.

I hope that I can get the support I need to complete my goal. I want to meet new friends and get the support I need. I also want to give support to what you all need.

I hope to meet some of you soon!!

Thanks for support!

" Welcome,

I have a very addictive compulsive personality. I am a alcoholic, spendaholic, gambler, and I always have to have more of what ever I am into, than the average person. A example at one time I had 19 cats, 28 horses, and about 4,000 chickens. When I was younger I even raised rabbits and small animals. I can't even tell you how many I had. I can go on and on about my need for more. But I don't think I m addicted to food the more that I understand how the human body works. I like food. I am foodie. But not a food addict. Like all obese people I am leptin resistant. Just like someone that is insulin resistant is not lacking insulin. I am not lacking leptin. My hypothalamus is no longer getting the message that I am full. In a since my body thinks it is starving. Hormones are very powerful.

Maybe I just don't like the word food addict . I am refusing to label myself that way. It sounds like a weekness that can't be overcome. I do not lack will power. I can control my hormones if I eat right. The leptin resistance and insulin resistance is not permanent.

" Carol,

I understand what you are saying about not labeling yourself as a food addict. But, I do understand addictions, as I have had my bouts with many addictions as well. And with that being said, food for me is the same as a drink of alcohol. I crave it, because I am happy, I am sad, because I am angry, because I hate myself. I crave it because I am missing something within me, and instead of taking a shot of vodka, I eat a bag of potato chips. I drive home and have to convince myself to not turn in to the fast food resturant, not because I am hungry, not because I love the way I feel after wards, because I need the fix. I feel like shit after I binge with food, just like an alcoholic does after a hard night of drinking. And I know that, because I was an alcoholic. So, I do take in consideration what you are saying. But, we will differ on the concept of being a food addict. And I will label myself as such. Addicts overcome their addictions, but will have to continue to fight the war for their lives. As I have done with food my entire life, because I am addicted to food. "
