What makes it fattening? I make my own because I have a hard time finding ones made with Extra Virgin Olive oil. I hate fat free. Extra virgin olive oil reduces inflammation because of the polyphenols. That will help you lose weight. IF taken in large enough amounts a day (2 TBLS) it also lower bad cholesterol and increases the good cholesterol. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/f...

Hi. New here but I too have a hard time throwing out some things that I love--besides the fact that it can get expensive. What I do is mix one tablespoon of regular dressing--Catalina is my favorite-- (bought measuring spoons and cups for accuracy) with one tablespoon of EVOO to pour over salad and just use it until it's gone. Like CinnamintStick says, EVOO is good for you in moderation. Plus I substitute something--like fresh spinach instead of lettuce, no tomatoes with this dressing, etc. And I make sure that I don't buy it again.
I have chronic pain so it's hard for me to fix anything for myself most days. I've decided to try the Medifast program which I will be starting 11/18 (due to cost). I think the pre-prepared options are what is going to work best for me in my situation. I'm currently at 205 lbs. and hope to lose at least 55 lbs. Plus, I have a little ulterior motive--hubby was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and is having a hard time himself losing weight so I hope I can inspire him. Good luck! Take care, Mare

I don't put dressing on my salad. But dip my fork it it. Find I use about 1/3 the amount that way. Get the taste and less calories.
think I will try mixing olive in that's a great Idea cinnamint! :>)

Thanks for the tip Mare! I am going to try 1:1 EVOO with Hubbys dressings. I use the fat free and low fats but he likes the regular kinds. Lets see if I can get this past him!

Not sure what kinds of dressing we are talking about but you can dilute most with white balsamic vinegar or other flavored vinegars. No added calories. I have diluted ranch dressing with extra low fat buttermilk.

I have the same problem. One thing I like to indulge with is Salsa con Queso with my tortilla chips. But I still have half a can of queso and no more chips. I will NOT buy more chips... not good for me and I can eat fruit instead when I'm hungry for a snack. BUT the queso is there and I can't toss it.
I'm hoping someone does it for me. If I tell him I'll let him, hubby will before trash pickup and I'll never see it again. Maybe you can try that!

I personally have to let myself indulge occasionally and within my calorie limit, or I will end up binging and going completely backwards. So I would keep the dressing and allow myself to have some of it once a week, while using the lower-calorie dressing six days a week. That's what works for me, anyway!

I totally agree with the advice to not put the dressing on your salad; put it on the side and dip your fork in it. Then spear your salad. You won't notice a thing and you'll be cutting down your consumption a lot. I can't stand fat free dressing, so that's one food I won't go fat free on.
