Fighting through Negative Self-Talk

View More Posts Ignore
At some point we all have a negative voice in our head telling us we
can't finish a workout or some other negative thought. Maybe you
have not exercised in a long time and when you start the voice is
saying "you have too far to travel - don't bother". Or when you are
doing your interval workout and the final interval is challenging
and the voice says "you are too tired - blow it off".

But the key to being successful for the long haul with your fitness
and weight loss journey is to stay positive, ignore the negative
voice and keep fighting.

Life is too short to beat yourself up over weight you have gained,
workouts you have missed or eating like a mad women for a day or
two. All you can do is get back on the horse and keep moving.

Beating yourself up or listening to the negative voice in your head
is only going to drag you in the wrong direction.

So if you are struggling to walk to the mail box or struggling to
finish your 30 minute interval workout, don't let the negative voice
drag you down. You are better than that and you deserve to feel great
about yourself and to have tons of energy!

" HI JoyceMarilyn. Some days it is really hard for me to be positive. I have been eating good and been doing my workout daily. Not 1 off since August. I have skip all birthday cakes and kind of treat that other people are eating. I have stayed on the diet. drinking my water gave up my diet coke. and stayed the same So it is hard for me to keep up the postive look. This moring I got on the scale and I'am up 1 lb. I asked myself why. I do not know. I felt like giving up on this. The only thing that keeps me going is that I have lost 35 lbs and I do feel better. I need 20 more off though. This is hard. if you can give me any advice I would like that. thanks "

" My first thought is do not deny yourself! Have cake, enjoy life....it will fit in your calorie day if you plan for it. How can on stay positive if there is nothing to look forward to?

Another thing is how you look at losing...Don't say "I need to lose weight" instead say "I want to lose weight" Don't say "I have to exercise today" instead say "I will exercise today"
Think "I want" and "I will" not "I have to"

Enjoy life! "

" You are absolutely right. After being overweight and not doing anything about it for most of my adult life, I find it is very easy to get down on myself when I screw up. Then it shame spirals from there and I am eating poorly, not working out, using the fact that I messed up a little to continue to eat whatever I want and not get off the couch.

I have come to terms with the fact that some weeks I will lose big, some weeks I will lose a little, some weeks I will stay the same and I may even gain. In the grand scheme of things I have accepted that I am not a failure if I gain a little weight back, I have my life to live, and losing weight is not my entire life. "

" thank you Joyce this is a great post I wished I read it a couple of days ago when I only lost.5 of a lb I got so frustrated at myself and depressed even though I know that its a part of it and Im still doing well but its so easy to get down and wanna give up What makes plateaus so hard is when you know you are working so hard and not seeing a result but I have to rememeber that for the long term Im doing really well and yes you are so right losing weight is NOT my whole life a number does not define me "

" Thanks for writing this post. I was just about to go on to write about how blah I feel and how I don't want to go swimming. When in fact, its not I don't want to go...I'm just tired and being lazy. I cannot let this neg thought embed my mind. I want to be healthy and active. The longer I go without swimming, the harder it is to get swimming and easier it is to put it off more. But I will not let this defeat me. I always enjoy it once I get there - just have to get my a*s in the pool and Ill be fine! Tonight I am going to do laps regardless of how "tired" I am. Today is a new day. I can't change what I did or didn't do yesterday. I can only think of today and how I can better my emtional, mental and physical health. Thanks for writing this post! Its inspiring! Today is a new day! "
