Lose weight with me!

I want to lose 40 lbs by November 1, 2009. I've been overweight for 8 years now, and I am starting to feel like I will never be thin again. However, I do not want to give up!

I know I have to change the way I think about my weight loss. I need to stay positive, be patient, and strong-willed . I also need to be disciplined so I will continue to do the things I need to do everyday, like: 1) go to the gym, 2) eat the right foods, 3) keep a food diary, 4) restrict calories, 5) get 7-8 hours of sleep everyday, and 6) practice stress reduction.

I would like to form a group of positive people to support and encourage each other on our weight loss journey by being strong instead of whiny and negative.

" Hi Mermaid 989. It's such a downer isn't it when nothing seems to be happening for a while. It's good though that you haven't put anything on? Just carry on doing what you know works and before long those 6 lbs will be ancient history, onward and upward & all that.

Hi slkmom. Welcome to group. Don't you just hate it when the scales make up stories like they do. What liars they are. I'm sure we are all really a walking advertisement for "America's Top Model" so i don't know why the scales insist on telling us we need to lose weight... oh well, if we must. "

" Mermaid989, have you tried a low-carb diet? They really work. For some reason, those carbs keeps us fat. As far as I know, we should only consume as little carbs as necessary, best in the form of highly nutritious vegetables, like spinach. You should read Dr. Atkins' book "The New Diet Revolution." I modified this diet to include only lean meats, and I limited the amount of calories I consumed daily. You might want to try it. Being thin requires a change in lifestyle. "

" Hi gentlemom. I can not just have meat I have hemochromatosis. In fact meat is a no no for me. I do have some. So that is why I think it is not comming off. I weighed myself this morning and nothing. I 'am really getting discouraged. I will keep on it. I'am determined to do this. "

" Hi Mermaid989, hang in there, it may not happen overnight , but it will happen. Big congrats to all who have managed to exercise, eat healthy and stay on track. To those who haven't - never give up, each day's a brand new one, and the only failure is giving up. xxx "

" Hello Cyber Friends! How are you today? I hope you are feeling positive and lively. I am. I just got back from the gym. You know how exercise has a tendency to give us that boost of energy.

I have not lost much weight at all, yet, but that's OK. I am feeling more healthy and energetic. I am also watching my diet.

I am happy to announce that yesterday I did not go out to buy my favorite big bag of snacks after I had a disappointment with my husband. I feel wonderful. I would have felt so guilty if I had given in to the temptation! Got to go now. I'm going to church. I'm sure they will have a great Father's Day message.

Love you all. Stay strong and positive! Let us know how you are doing. We care about you. :) "
