I would like to start drinking slim fast for lunch. I was reading the nutrition label and 1 can has 17 grams of sugar in it. I realize it is a meal replacement, but I don't think I consume that much sugar in one of my meals. I try not to consume any sugar.
Is this really okay for dieters to consume that much sugar in one setting?

" I tried it. What I found was I was starving an hour later because of 2 reasons. 1 - its just a liquid. Regardless of what nutrients are in it, liquid doesn't keep you full. 2 - the sugar. The sugar causes your blood sugar to spike, then suddenly drop leaving you feeling hungry. At 160 calories - its a lot of calories for just a drink. You can have a sandwich made with once slice of bread, 2 oz chicken and some mustard for the same calories and stay full a lot longer. "

" I agree, sugar is a refined carbohydrate. You're better off with complex carbs and protein.

You could have a scoop of tuna or chicken salad on a bed of greens, drizzle with olive oil and lemon

Two eggs and a piece of whole wheat toast

Red bell pepper slices filled with light cream cheese mixed with dried herb mix, and two ounces turkey breast

Etc. "

" Yeah, that sugar is a killer. you would be better off eating an apple or something and a few oz of chicken. You won't have that sugar rollercoaster ride, and you will not be hungry either. "

" Hi Brook! Before you try Slimfast, I'm going to tell you a little story. When I was horribly underweight (which seems like a lifetime ago now...), I actually drank Slimfast to PUT ON WEIGHT!!! That's right. Not Boost or one of those nutritional supplements. Slimfast helped me put on some weight quickly and jump-started me moving up toward a healthy weight (again, seems like a lifetime ago...) Everytime I see it and remember it's a weight loss "supplement," I laugh because the only time I took it was in reverse. ;) "
